What do you think about the rising prices of movie posters ?

What do you think about the rising prices of movie posters ?

Hi ! Good day to you, all :)

I'm a movie lover, as all people here, I suppose and also I always liked movie posters, since young age, but never even thought in collect them, until last year.

I started getting a few movie posters, USA printed, here in Spain, but they are very expensive, so, I bought then a few from USA directly. Later on, I discovered eMoviePosters, Great ! :)

I got some movie posters from movies I like and paid a good price, not cheap, and more than $80 in shipping costs and customs, but, still, I was happy.

But...

Since end of last year I see how movie posters are going up quickly and even the cheap ones are expensive for what they are. And don't talk about the "top" ones ! Those are simply impossible to collect !

Now I can't get the movie posters I want anymore. Sometimes I think if is not better to sell all and forget about it, but I like them.

I have no idea if this will get worst forever or if is transitory and happens from time to time, Someone knows something about "movie posters pricing history" ? Maybe I just need to wait until the market get saturated or the "dealers" get bored and sell peaches and watermelons instead.

Right now and since last year, I'm not even bidding anymore; when I see the selling prices just after the bidding finish... Wow ! :o

Cheers !

  • Hi Diego,

Hard to say if overall poster prices are on the increase. My observation from all the research that I do is that there are some real bargain out there if one knows where to look. A lot I believe has to do with the film titles that you are after. Maybe you are seeking  well sought after titles that are currently in high demand.

Not a subject that involves me, but I am certainly interested in hearing what others may have to say.

Hi, HONDO, Thanks for the answer and, yes, I look for the same things others are looking for, specially what I used to watch when young, in the 80's, but I can tell, even posters of not-so-good movies, cheaper last year, are now more expensive.

But, well, I suppose is "good for the business". The problem for me is I'm not "in the business" to get some money back selling them later : I'm the last person in the line, the collector who likes movie posters, Well, that is not true, the real problem is I'm not rich (yet), Hehehe !

Would be good if someone have statistics, as I said, maybe this is transitory, maybe is only a "hype", maybe happens time to time across the years, no idea. Or maybe is the inflation, but, Hey ! Politicians said inflaction is also "transitory" ! Hehehe !

    Cheers !
  • Sorry that I don't have anything else that I can contribute on this subject at this time.

Hopefully some others may like to share their thoughts here.

At the contrary ! Thank to you for your answer ! :)

I'll try to do some statistics by myself. Enjoy your day and, Cheers !
  • Certainly 80s and 90s titles are on the rise, but some older lesser-known titles seem to be going the other way
  • Just go here (https://www.emovieposter.com/agallery/archive.html) and start searching the 1,973,605 results and you will soon have concrete facts as to what is going up, what is going down, and what is moving sideways.

And unlike ANYWHERE else on the Internet, EVERY single one of the prices is GUARANTEED to have really happened, at EXACTLY the price listed (because if the sale fell through, or the item was returned, we delete the result).

Do some research and report back!

  • As collectors get older, desirability of movie posters changes. 30 years ago, 40s and 50s posters were highly sought after because collectors remembered seeing the films and liked the stars. Many of those titles are no longer popular because younger collectors have never heard of a lot of the films. 20 years ago, I was selling posters like Big Trouble in Little China, Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Top Gun and many of the good 80s titles for peanuts. Now those 80s titles are extremely popular and prices have skyrocketed because the younger collectors identify with those films. I am finding that there is a lot of interest in 90s and more recent titles as well. I still love the older posters but many have dropped in value.

Thank you for the answer and, Yes ! I also saw that in the last months. I didn't see too much movie posters going down in value, except some from foreign countries. Maybe we just need to wait until some type of posters go down again. Luckily, I got some before they became expensive. Cheers !

    Hi, Bruce !
Sorry, the link you posted does not work, says :
"You are likely trying to view a page that no longer exists. If you think you are seeing this message in error, please report it to our webmaster."

But I'm doing some research since this afternoon thanks to your FANTASTIC website, in Excel and with charts, we'll see if I can continue soon, because I'm working until the weekend, obviously.

    Thank you and, Cheers !

Oh ! Sorry, I didn't see the last character was a ")", I would fixed it myself, so I don't bother you with something so simple. I use your website very often, I got a lot of posters and lobby cards from you in the last year

And, now, As I promised last week, I made a simple Windows Program in my spare time so I can check the change in prices. I have only a few movies in the list, but is a start

    Some screenshots :

Now I can see some things more clearly. like "fine" posters sometimes only appear at first, maybe they are not so "fine" later on or maybe don't appear in the website again. Cheers !

  • Hi !

The other day someone contacted with me about my Windows program, but he use Apple products, so, I thought I can program a web, that way he (and anyone else) can access to the data

As I told him, I'm not sure will be useful for someone, but I did it this last days and here is it :
    https://www.brainfornothing.com/
    User : youareallowedtoenter_1
    Password : onlywiththecorrectpassword_9

That is my personal website, but I'm not using it right now, so, can be used for that instead. I suppose will work well in any device, I didn't test it in phones, but looks OK in computer monitors

Same as before, I have only a few movies added for now, I suppose I can add more by people requests, no problem

Not sure Bruce is interested and he can add something like this in his website

By the way, I found a few errors in some movie posters data, nothing important

    Cheers !

  • OK, I just programmed "the next level" :)
I added some posters for tomorrow's auction on eMovieposters, with direct links, notes if needed and updated prices :)
I can add some more before tomorrow's auction if someone is interested
    Cheers !

...And just a few hours ago all we received a message from Bruce telling us the mobile app is updated and the website will be updated too in a few months, Hahaha ! Maybe all this work is for nothing
Anyway, the website is working now with the user and password I said before  Cheers !
EDITED : I changed the way to access the chart of every movie, you need to click now in the image of the poster of the movie
  • DiegoP

What you did is cool and works fine on my computer.

When you say "By the way, I found a few errors in some movie posters data, nothing important" do you mean on my site or auctions? If so, please email what you found to matt@emovieposter.com and I assure you they will be fixed ASAP!

    Bruce

I contacted with you, as you know already   The prices chart inside every movie looks OK in computers, but in phones must be useless, I didn't really think too much on it.
    Cheers !
  • Inflation is finally catching up… New Mondo Blood thinking $100 posters are cheap. Early 80s babies having more money than before. I need more insurance.
  • Hi ! I updated the website with the last prices and added links to today's auction, but didn't add more posters yet, I'm not active latelly buying, so, I don't need it. If someone want me to add some posters with the price charts, I can do it, but not sure I have time before today's auction, only a few hours left

In any case, I don't see too much interest and it's a lot of work, so, I'll use my website for other purposes in the future, not in a hurry, tho, so, until then, this web will continue working and I'll update sometimes, as I need it myself

I add two screenshots of the lastest changes

    Cheers !

    :)
