RIP David McCallum 
Most may remember him from his star turn in TV's The Man From Uncle (as the Russian secret agent Illya Kuryakin), but for ME far and away his best role was as Ashley-Pitt 'Dispersal' in The Great Escape. He also was wonderful in 1991's Hear My Song and he added much to every role he played.
He was a Scottish film and television actor starting in the 1950s. While making The Great Escape he introduced his then-wife Jill Ireland to one of his co-stars, Charles Bronson, and several years later, she married Bronson and they were married for a long time.
McCallum had worked steadily throughout the years, appearing in TV's "NCIS" as Dr. Donald "Ducky" Mallard since 2003. He is the exact kind of actor Hollywood so badly needs and so sorely lacks.

An early pre fame film of his that is worth checking out is the 1958 British film Violent Playground in which he plays a juvenile delinquent.
Robbery Under Arms filmed partly in Australia featured David McCallum and Jill Ireland in the cast. In 1957 the year of the film's release they were married.
