Comic Book Concepts for Posters?

So I fell back into comics during the pandemic as I mentioned and naturally started researching comic book pressing and cleaning…

I pressed my first poster the other day with great results. I bought a 24x16 heat press. I took a protest poster that I had with some dents and what not and pressed it like a comic book. Came out great. I am thinking of taking on a lobby card to see how that goes. Then perhaps a folded one sheet. I didn’t take a photo of the before on the protest poster but will document the lobby card…

There is also a technique using blue LED for whitening. I got the lights in last week but haven’t had time to set it up… Exciting time for me as I test and learn new paper techniques.

  • I have seen many lobbies that were clearly pressed and flattened, but not so many posters. Let us know if you can use yours to do a poster like an insert or daybill, doing half at a time.

Around 35 years ago I saw an original folded King Kong 1933 one-sheet that had been pressed (how nerve-wracking must that have been?) and it looked like it had never been folded, except on the closest inspection!

  • I’ve already thought about this. The thought I had was to get longer aluminum plates that would cover a full insert or daybill. I have 24x16 plates now. With longer plates I can cover the 24 inches and likely the two folds. For the ends just use clamps - the heat press gets the aluminum hot and makes sure everything comes out flat.

I am also sure there is a large enough heat press (maybe a vacuum table) that can accommodate a one sheet. Maybe down the road!
