I only check in every few days. Feel free to send me a pm. FYI I don’t actively restore posters anymore. There are also a few folks on here that are very experienced and can provide feedback - so post away here too.
Before and after pictures of my restoration services, using conservation techniques. washing the poster is the critical step for getting these results.
This is a very rare poster from the silent era. I have restored this for The Last Picture Company in Kirtland, Ohio.
Please see the below before and after pictures. Note the water damage, heavy toning of the paper, ripped and paper loss in the before picture. After an extensive 2 hour washing of the poster, and restoration, the after picture has brought the poster back to its original state.
Carmen, the 1913 Stanner E.V. Taylor silent romantic musical ("A 3 Reel Version of Carmen"; based on the classic novel by Prosper Merimee) starring Marion Leonard (in the title role as Carmen), and Francis McDonald (as Don Jose). Note that this was the first American version of this classic opera (dozens would follow, some comedies).
What is very interesting is that this is a completely silent movie, and yet it is a musical!
This is a good example of a poor restoration. The restorer did not wash before mounting to the paper and canvas. The toning or discoloration came through to the front of the poster after mounting. The colors are dull, and not vibrant. There are bubbles in the mounting because the paste did not stick to the dirt. Don’t take shortcuts if you want your poster restored, and use a professional that has before and after pictures, and backs there restoration 100%!
