Australia Post Enforces New Compulsory Costs on Sending Tubes

edited September 2024 in Packaging & Shipping
Just received this from Aust Post this morning. I have edited it ever so slightly to get the message across and that is we have to pay more in postage. Too bad if you have bought up on tubes without sleeves. While flat-packs are used mainly, Tubes still play a significant role. Online costs for postage just got a lot more expensive.

For mailing tubes lodged into our network, we have designed a compulsory 'sleeve' that will enable these items to be safely processed by our automated sorting equipment. A 'Mailing Tube with Sleeve' product is now available in three sizes at an extra cost - see link:

We are now asking you to discontinue using mailing tubes without the sleeve. Mailing tubes that are accepted into our network without a sleeve may be subject to delivery delays. Without sleeves, the tubes roll off our sorting equipment, resulting in additional handling and safety concerns.

Comments

  • I received an interesting message from Australia Post on this:

In regards to your enquiry, you can supply or create your own sleeves. They should be sticky enough to stay on mailing tubes and not fall off when processed through the machines at our facilities.
  • This is another stupid move by Aus Post.
I bought a small collection a few years ago that came with more tubes than posters and they're just sitting there waiting to be used. I've been gradually getting through a few of them but for a non-professional seller like myself that takes a long time.
Looks like they can go in recycling.

  • I spoke to the owner of my local LPO and he believes that it is such a stupid operational idea that it is likely to be discontinued at some point in the future.
  • I guess just get some foam squares with 2" hole and start sending them in a long box... Just pitch the tube all together.
