LOST IN A BIG CITY (1923) — A Blind Buy for a Film About a Blind Girl

And then there was the auction in mid-January. One lot was offered without an image, and it consisted of two identical one-sheets for “Lost in a Big City” (Arrow Film, 1923). As expected, hardly anyone besides me went for it. One other bidder participated, but wasn’t on site to bid higher. I won the no-image lot for $69 including the buyer’s premium.

You can then find it again on Heritage. In 2023 it sold for $325. The only difference (as it seems to me) is that the 2023 lot was linen-backed.

And now take a look at this beauty. It has real wall power and should make the heart of anyone beat a little faster who loves the graphic visual language of that era.

I think I got a pretty serious bargain there—because I don’t have it once, I have it twice.

Still, my excitement is somewhat restrained. Right now it’s still in Texas, waiting to ship, and I’m only assuming it’s the same poster. The image here is “borrowed” from the 2023 auction.

I’m very curious to see it. Do you like it?
