Apparently, a daybill for Forty Thousand Horsemen sold on ebay a few months ago. Would anyone happen to have an image of that poster and maybe who sold it?
Do you think the daybill was an original or a later printing which borrows ideas from When The Daltons Rode & The Daltons Ride Again All three films released in Australia by Universal.
If the ebay daybill of 40,000 Horsemen was an original it would have been a valuable find but if not, the other three daybills of this title I have sighted are of little value. Two duotone and the third, a colour printing has an image of three American outlaws on horseback.
It was sold by a seller in Western Australia , he Sells books on eBay , I missed it by 15 mins ( cried myself to sleep that night) . I did email him to see if he had anymore , just a Daybill for Superman in Exile.
We might have to remove this thread looks like the scars are still deep for many members, but I get why, and boy how fast would one have to be to have snagged it ..
We have all by now seen the great original daybill poster of 40,000 Horesemen which I am sure we would all love to own.. Note that the billing is Betty Bryant, Grant Taylor followed by Chips Rafferty. The film appears to have had bookings throughout the 1940s so I feel the supply of original daybills ran out mid 40s and a replacement poster was designed and printed around this time The Daltons Ride Again was released and the poster artist for Universal releases at W.E. Smith found it easier to copy American cowboys on horses from another current Universal release than find original 40,000 Horsemen material. The new poster reverses the billing to read Chips Rafferty, Grant Taylor with Betty Bryant now billed third. I would date the new poster as being around 1946 as Chips was now a big star due to The Overlanders and a drawing power at the box office and the poster has A Universal Picture on it and this was just about to change to being Universal-International on posters.

I'll upload images of the posters. Just waiting for them to arrive in the post. I also have other versions of forty thousand horsemen shown on the web site: filmposter.com.au

Wha? Did anyone snag a copy of the picture to share?
See what happens when you turn back to real life and have kids!
Another collector very kindly sent me an image. Amazing that so many of us missed it....
Beautiful rare poster and I wished I had one, As there is no censorship rating on it was it destined for New Zealand?

Its a bit sad that it didn't go to Charles Chauvel's grandson. He is a good friend and had been looking for that poster for a long time.
Looks as we check out eMovieposter and not eBay.

Had no idea this film/poster would be so special to so many Aussies - but on reviewing it makes sense now
Fark. Sorry I asked to see it now. Whomever ended up with it, hope it has a happy and proud place in that collection.
I'm off to cry...
