Big 20th Century Fox Stock Poster Quiz.

edited June 2015 in Trivia and Games

You look at this poster and think another poster with just generic drawings on it. I believe this to be untrue and at least some of the images were inspired by some Fox films of the late 1950's. I have identified four films that I think the poster artist drew inspiration from. Don't be  afraid to look a little before and possibly a little after the late 1950's and there is possibly a 1954 inspired image is in the mix. I am sure I am on the right track here as a minute or so ago looking at the poster image for the last time before I post this thread I noticed another image to strengthen my firm thinking I am correct in what I am saying.

  • There are 14 images on the one sheet stock poster and I have now identified  8 of the images which I believe the poster artist copied from late 1950's Fox posters, but altered all of them all in various ways so they wouldn't be identified with the earlier films.

  • Not a peak from anyone. Let's try and get the ball rolling. Space Master X -7 is the image in the top right corner. Remember 20th Century Fox films released in the USA between 1957 and 1959.

    Hondo

  • Never heard of X-7, I was watching the opening credits for it and see it co-stars one Moe Howard? What the?!

  • The original poster that I believe inspired the stock poster artist. Now you have the hang of it let's roll forth with  the answers. If I figured this quiz out all by myself and think I know the answers there must be somebody else out there who can do the same.

  • I think the image of the batttle ship is Sink the Bismark and the image of the indian is Broken Arrow
  • Definitely not Broken Arrow - but my input is zilch, a lot of looks like but none came up trumps.

As mentioned earlier Broken Arrow too early.

Sink The Bismark the 1960 film is too late and the battle ship is too big. you are looking for a smaller  destroyer escort. Hope this helps.

Sorry not that one.. Matt you along with Paul and Charlie should know this film title and someone is watching.

  • Look closer at the image at the top of the poster of the plane. The image is a little deceiving until closer inspection..

    Hondo

  • Just worked out another image so as it stands it is now films  20th Century Fox  released  in Australia between 1957 and 1960 that we are looking for.

    Hondo

  • There are actually 15 images on the poster.Just noticed another one which is hard to recognize until you magnify the area where the  image is in question.

    Hondo

  • Matt, Paul & Charlie you will kick yourself if I have to end up giving the answer to one of the images ( one? ).

  • Battle of the River Plate?
  • Wrong distributor. The Battle Of The River Plate was a Rank / BEF release. Think cat and mouse.

  • Sink the Bismark?
  • Enemy below?
  • Or run silent run deep

Both are correct. Remember my clue '' cat and mouse''? it is both the destroyer escort and the German U-Boat stalking it.

  • If you are perhaps thinking why didn't I use the Australian daybill as an example it is because it is a little dark and the U.S.artwork is clearer and virtually the same image of the two boats and clearer to illustrate the answer.

    Hondo

  • The image in the bottom left hand corner of the couple has a clue in the hat the man is wearing.

Clue - Carribean. Based on best selling book.

  • Two images from a remake of a film based on a famous novel.

The answer to the above is in the 1959 film Intent To Kill. It is hard isn't it? The only reason I worked it out was the unintentional clue Matt gave me on an earlier thread'' It All Depends On You'' which went  on to be this thread, when he said it looked like Dr. Gillette.

Don't be afraid to have a go as there are easier ones than this.

The Australian artwork threw me because it shows a two stacker(smokestacks) when in the movie it's a Buckley class escort destroyer with one stack.....but that's me being a war nut.
