 Top left Stephen Boyd in Costume as Mark Antony with Prince Phillip on set of Cleopatra, top right & bottom left Peter Finch as Julius Caesar and bottom right Stephen Boyd again as Mark Antony. Due to prolonged production delays these two actors were replaced by Richard Burton as Mark Antony and Rex Harrison as Julius Caesar. I would have preferred the original two actors in the roles.

     Gale Sonderguard in a makeup wardrobe test for The Wizard Of Oz ( 1939 ) after being cast as the witch. She withdrew from the role of the ugly witch as she was afraid it could damage her career. Wise move or not ? I believe no one would have topped Margaret Hamilton's performance..

    Agreed!  You know someone is perfect for the role if there is no way you could imagine anyone else doing it!

    Interesting info Lawrence...Stephen Boyd would of course perform "decently" as Messala in Ben Hur!

     Let's not forget The Fall Of The Roman Empire from 1964. If Stephen Boyd had completed Cleopatra it would have been in the middle of a trifecta of '' ancient Rome'' films within a period of five years.

                                                                                 Eric Stoltz, pictured above with Christopher Lloyd, filmed his part of Marty McFly in Back To The Future ( 1985 ) for four weeks before being replaced by Michael J. Fox.  Eric apparently was taking his part far too seriously and they needed an actor to lighten things up so I would say a good call in hiring Michael J.Fox.

    Paulette Goddard was a serious  contender for the role Of Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With The Wind ( 1939).

    She had a lot going for her and David O. Selznick liked her screen test ( image above ), but ultimately lost out to Vivien Leith. Vivien Leith was Scarlett and one cannot think of anyone else playing the part but if Paulette had been signed to play the role

    I am sure she would have acquitted herself well. If you watch all the actresses screen tested for the role she certainly stood out over all the others.

     Richard Gere looks like he is Sylvester Stallone's pal here in a scene from The Lords Of Flatbush from 1974, but Sylvester Stallone and Richard Gere didn't get along very well during the making of this film. So much so that after an altercation a decision had to be made to fire one of the two actors. They chose to keep Sylvester and Richard was let go and replaced in the film by Perry King. In an interview Sylvester once gave, he said Richard to this day seriously dislikes him. I am wondering from the image above if the look on Sylvester's face is a sign of things to come as Richard apparently annoyed him during the making of the film.

                                     Why waste any artwork. In Spain you just adjust the inaccurate never used artwork for the eventual film's release there.

                               Buddy Ebsen was playing the the part of the Tin Woodman in the 1939 film version of The Wizard of Oz, but he had to be replaced by Jack Haley after the aluminium makeup used with his costume made him gravely ill. Jack Haley was great but Buddy Ebsen I believe would have also been great in the role. Interestingly Ray Bolger was first cast to play the Tin Woodman  and  Buddy Ebsen was originally intended for the role of the Scarecrow , but Ray Bolger eventually managed to convince MGM to allow him to swap parts with Ebsen. Had the swap not taken place Ray Bolger wouldn't have been in the completed film, Buddy Ebsen would have been the Scarecrow and who knows who MGM would have signed to play the Tin Woodman. Would it have been Jack Haley I wonder ?

    I thoroughly agree. One just needs to watch the clip of Ebsen and Shirley Temple dancing to ''At The Codfish Ball'' from the 1936 film ''Captain January'' to see why.

    Wow great clips from David. Buddy was a one of a kind of dancer. Maybe some musicals to watch Ves.

    Ah...musicals.

    Ok, see my dedication...give me his top 3 and I will try to get them and watch :)

    The Shirley Temple one doesn't count.  I am pretty sure as a kid I saw just about everything with her in it as a girl, so I have actually seen that one.  Mum loved her.  We would always have to watch anything with her in it when it came on the telly!

                                                                     Spoken about on another thread but needs to be mentioned on this thread also. The Alamo planned by Republic Pictures for 1952 didn't eventuate. Finally made by John Wayne's Batjac productions and released through United Artists in 1960.

    Definitely seen the daybill, but not the one sheet, so will be nice to see.
