Authentication | Lupin III – The Castle of Cagliostro Japanese B1 1979 vs. R2014

After 5+ years of searching I finally found a first release 1979 Japanese B1 for Lupin III!  I also own the R2014 poster so I made up an authentication post on my blog.  Enjoy!

  • Congrats on the find - how long did that take?

What's the counterfeit market like for Japanese posters?

There are some straight out bootlegs in Japan for sure -- especially in the smaller B2 sizes which are easier to duplicate. However, it can be just as difficult to identify true theater release posters as well as it seems good films got re-released over and over in Japan. Eirin marks, which began in 1966, have helped considerably.  But on some occasions like this Lupin III (and Easy Rider, Bullitt, Enter the Dragon, etc...) they duplicated that on the re-release poster as well!  Ugh.

This post will hopefully be the first in a series  B)

Thanks Ves, appreciate the pointing out of my posting error. I did notice my mistake but failed to get round to editing.
