Really love the kwai Mark! Nice job!

Do you think you are weeks, months or year plus to tackle the winchester 73 locandina?

This is incredibly common in older locandinas. Look at my auction history and sort by "Year Ascending" and you will see tons of these.

It is in the printing, and don't try to fix it through bleaching!

Interesting Bruce, I will take a look at your older locandias. Makes me wonder what caused this off-yellow printing "film"?

I did give it a short bleach, but felt it wouldn't have any major effect and any longer bleach would do more harm than good.

    Thanks Sven-appreciate it!

Im probably months from the Winchester '73 Locandia-it has some pretty bad stains-need to get some more practice on stains before I try. Will only get one chance so...

  • Finally...after months of looking at the package- of getting my lighting umbrellas out & setting them up. Still need to mount my magnetic white board to the wall, but the lighting & photography of Bridge looks much better.
Set up. I know not what I'm doing so...Any advice on how to set this up would be appreciated.

  • Bridge on the River Kwai- Italian Locandia completed.

Taken with the new lighting setup so hopefully it looks a little better.
  • Fantastic Mark! Another one to be proud of! Luv the Artwork and colours

Regarding new lighting, is it me or its a little darker down the bottom and brighter at the top?
  • Cool. Looking very professional Mark!

Thanks Sven! I haven't seen too many Locandias I really like, but Bridge is one of them! The resto was minimal to a line center fold so it did turn out quite nice.

Yes, it does seem a bit dark on the lower portion. Am going to somehow mount the board and adjust the height/angle of the umbrellas to get more consistent lighting from top/btm & sides. Work in progress... =)

    Thanks Matt!

So many on this site take such awesome photographs of their paper it's time for me to up my game! Ive got a nice 32mb Nikon & tripod-just need to get some better rare earth magnets as well.

Thanks Rosa! It's taken me a while, and the wife has graciously allowed me to take an entire room, but it's a great diversion from life!
    - real umbrellas? Their the ones that came with the light kit so I guess that's a yes-they work very nicely-but am still working on getting the lighting even from top to bottom.
  • Ok. Went to Lowes-our local giant hardware store and got the fixings to mount the whiteboard to the wall-Amazon Prime delivered my new magnets in under 10 hours so I'm officially in and running with my new photo area! Am very pleased with the results so far-just need to fine tune the lighting.

New setup-white board mounted/hung in wall. Nikon in place.

Seven Brides For Seven Brothers is finally done! ...After removal of 23 paper stickers, a thorough wash, deacidification & bleaching, six paper infills, MC compound infill, watercolor pencils, gouache paints, airbrush sprays to the border & tape stain fold lines, its done. Not 100% satisfied, but happy with results for progress made at this point. So much to perfect, but still 8 years to go... =)

  • Did I miss something re 8 years?
  • Ahhhh so those are  lighting umbrellas  (I thought you might have given normal umbrellas a different use! That tells how much i know about these things  =)

=)  ...well I might know what lighting umbrellas are, but i have a lot to learn about photographing posters! It's not that easy-but I figure lighting, set up of tripod & camera settings, further solid mount the white board...maybe a year or so... ;)
  • Really like the new photography set up. Not perfect, but the overall quality of front & back is much nicer!

  • Dear me Mark how many can you restore a week? I guess you guys work on several posters  at a time?
  • Such a cute poster.  Looking forward to seeing the finished results.

Well, we certainly rushed the last three only because two were birthday gifts and one was sold to a co-worker of my wife's. Usually we're working on about 2-3 at a time & take about 2-3 weeks to restore depending on amount of resto work. We're getting a little faster. Backing with pencils only is usually a quick turnaround.

Thanks Ves-I like Hope & one day will own the Road posters. Utopia is my favorite. The cigarette burns will likely get cleaned up/out prior to wash. Should be fun!
  • He features on some wonderful Richardson Studio daybills!

Should see if I still have some here to send your way.

    Thanks Rosa!

Ok. So a few months ago a friend of mine placed in my care a rare? white title Return of the Jedi 1Sheet, with the movie Android printed on the back. I could only find one other sale -on EMP. It was described as a "printers test" and sold for $796.

Anyway, I was asked to remove some very, very sticky tape. It seemed like some sort of thin "foam/cushion" tape. My first testing determined it would be a pain in the....and it was. It was stuck together on the top corners, middle top and at the middle sides. :grimacing:
  • Poster as I received it.

  • The 2-hr fun begins...

Then for each layer on both sides I had to scrape/skin/scrub the layer of tape/residue...

    So very impressive...

Photos on new set-up look great too
  • Getting inside some of the fold areas was challenging.

Going up to the side middle/tape pieces.

    Careful peeling...

    Scrubbing/scraping/wiping excess residue...

    Finally...

  • Front photo'd- for all the pulling and scraping on the backside the front was not damaged and it only shows fold line erosion and a small tear here or there....

    Backside-1982 movie Android

Btw- for all you who only saw that banana on the front side, it slid right off with a little Bestine and a palette knife....it survived intact.... =)

  • I need a gif that says "wowowowo"
really useful to see these pics. Thank you!!
  • So what's the plan with this sucker?
