    YAHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
  • Hmmmm cryptic post of the day goes to... ?
  • Australian three sheets aren't easy to find but they occasionally turn up now and then. I recently saw images of two Alfred Hitchcock 3 sheets. I don't know how long the images have been  available on Google, but the images were new to me.The titlrs are The Birds and Psycho.

Anything like this one Lawrence ;)

Please ignore the downlights reflecting off of the black.

  • Congrats on that psycho Will!

  • Yes that's the one. Pricey - yours?
  • That's just flipping mad!
  • Is the Psycho 3 sht listed somewhere? Could you post a link?

Yes Lawrence, thought I'd lost it as there were two fake bidders (seller in disguise) so the bidding was all up and down when those bids were pulled. Then I just had enough of it and bailed, I then found out my other half secretly took over and bid for an early Christmas gift. Obviously happy, not with potential backing and framing costs though ;)

Thanks Sven, a crazy few hours.
  • Like the "Get more out of life, go out to a movie" Tagline.

Mad? Aren't we all a little mad at times mate?  =)

The '' Get more out of life Go out to a movie'' tagline was used on a limited number Paramount Pictures posters circa 1960, but only for a short period of time. This wording was included within what appears to be a flying banner which appears on your poster. This exact promotional wording was revived by the distributor Filmways in the late 1970's, and into the early 1980' in a slightly altered shaped banner style that appeared on all their posters.

As far as I have worked out W.F.Schey Pty.Ltd. designed and printed posters for Paramount Pictures were the only ones in 1960 that had included the promotional tagline. The Psycho Australian daybill and one sheet printed by a different printer or printers doesn't include the tagline. The Paramount W.E.Schey printed House On Haunted Hill 3 sheet has the tagline but the Australian daybill from Richardson Studio / W.E.Smith doesn't. Another example is The Bellboy one sheet also printed by W.F.Schey, whereas the Australian daybill from the Richardson Studio / W.E. Smith doesn't. As W. F. Schey weren't known for producing daybills, it appears then that only a limited number of W.F.Schey designed and printed one and 3 sheets for Paramount Pictures,  with the promotional tagline were ever produced. This in my eyes Wil makes this poster a little different, as well as being very rare.
  • Thanks for the explanation Lawrence, it did seem odd that this was added. But certainly makes it stand out as unique.
  • This Psycho 3 sheet appearance has me wondering about any other Alfred Hitchcock Australian 3 sheets that exist. There are four that I am aware of, with these being Psycho, I Confess, The Birds and Torn Curtain. Any others that anyone else may be aware of ? John perhaps may have some feedback?

Congrats Wil.  I really like this one over the daybill, but WAY too big :)
I actually think you did really well...
  • Agreed considering it was advertised all over Facebook ?
  • Thanks Ves, it'll certainly take centre stage in the lounge post backing by Studio C.
  • Agreed considering it was advertised all over Facebook ?
Really? I heard about it by pure chance, never saw it advertised anywhere, I don't feel so bad now for the mrs.

More so for myself that now I need to replicate an equally expensive present!  :s Some new marigolds, a vacuum or an iron should be well received  B)
  • She's also never seen the Movie, so she's up for a screening tonight.

I've sold it as a love story, which to be honest it is of sorts. Just a tale of a guy who really loves his mother, possibly a little too much.
  • Oh Man...Love story!  Poor other half!
  • Oh Man...Love story!  Poor other half!

Well, there is a love story weaved in there. Janet Leigh steals the cash because of her love for John Gavin but her plans go pear shaped!

    Just a tad!  =)
  • How did the other half go with the love story?
  • How did the other half go with the love story?
Actually pretty good, she's only watched a handful of black & white movies to date (her parents didn't let her or her sisters watch much television/movies etc. when growing up (all about study), possibly why they're now all doctors and I'm not :) ).

She's definitely seems more open to having the 3 Sheet on the wall than she was before watching the movie, so once my Empire Strikes Back Aussie OS arrives next week, they'll both be off for backing.

  • oh man black and white is where it's at!
Think of all the wonderful classics you can introduce her to!

Can't wait to see the big ones up on the walls!

Did you happen to see this John and do you know of any other perchance ?

Not aware of any others but they certainly would have been printed for more Hitchcock films.

  • Thanks anyway John.
