    Get wellest, Lawrence.
Pick any films that strike your interest.. I was just being grumpy the other day.  Sorry.
  • Thank you for those members who have posted comments regarding the quiz, and for the best wishes expressed to me.
  •  As currently activity is a little quite here on the forum, I will continue with this quiz on a restricted weekly  basis only.

These two new entries aren't possibly worthy to be called classics, but are very well regarded films. nevertheless.

     C173  C174

    Sorry it isn't it.

Both films to be identified have something in common.
  • Still can't pick C173, but C174 is Pickup on South Street (1953).

    Peter
  • 173 Niagra...but more importantly, how is everything with you Lawrence?
  • Still can't pick C173, but C174 is Pickup on South Street (1953).

Correct. I like a lot of director Samuel Fuller's work, including this film.

  • 173 Niagra...but more importantly, how is everything with you Lawrence?
    Correct. Niagara from 1953.

Second of a Jean Peters  double. There will be from time to time various images  that I will present here that will be connected in some way or another.

There will be another two images  presentation here next Saturday the 4th of February.

Thanks Ves for asking about my current health situation. My health looks like it will take some time to be able to get it  fixed.
  • I had MM correct, just mixed up the movie.
  • Looking forward to the 4th.

    Peter
  •  C175

     C176

Two more images to identify. One classic film, and one underated film that contains a famous scene, part of it is seen above in one of the posted images.
  • C176 - I know this without even looking it up. Hitchcock's Young and Innocent (1937). It contains that famous tracking shot into the guy above.

Correct and good work, The film was also titled The Girl Was Young for the original. U,S.A. release. To me this scene is the most remembered  one in the film. This famous scene has a long pan and zoom across a ballroom into an extreme closeup of a  musician's face.

  • I'll take a stab in the dark and say Stalag 17 for C175

Not Stalag 17, but thanks for trying,

A clue is that  there is a very strong connection to the already answered C176

I forgot that the images will be related in some way...I'll keep thinking. I think I know where to start looking now...

  • I'm going with Pastor Hall for C175

  • I am very much hoping it is Pastor Hall, because it was based on the life of Pastor Martin Niemoller, who wrote this immortal verse:

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
    Then they came for me
And there was no one left
    To speak out for me

i am very sorry to inform you Bruce that the answer isn't  Pastor Hall from 1940.

Where you thinking that the Nova Pilbeam participation in both the current displayed films, along with the German soldiers, was the link? Great guess though.

Thanks for sharing the verse, as I hadn't seen it previously. I have never seen Pastor Hall, have you?

  • I never saw Pastor Hall. I would like to, because it is based on the life of one of the most courageous men ever!

  • A final clue for C175 is pre America.
  • edited February 2023
I am somewhat disappointed that no one recognised the image from C175. It is the scene leading up to the shootout at the end of The Lady Vanishes ( 1938 ). With so many Alfred Hitchcock fans here on the forum, my thinking  was it would be a shoo-in for someone to be able to answer it.

       ( Argentinean poster )

Two more new images will be included here tomorrow.
  • I have seen Lady Vanishes numerous times, including recently with one of my daughters, and that image did not click with me at all.

Two more images from well known films that I wouldn't think should present any problem in identifying,
