  • I've seen the film and was impressed. I'm not always a big Baz fan but this one moves fast and has the flash needed to tell Elvis' story. Most Elvis fans are really impressed, despite some historical inaccuracies. Austin Butler is excellent and really studied the Elvis moves.

  • A beautiful extremely rare long Australian daybill image of Marie Antoinette ( 1938 ), which I have never sighted previously.

Cam ( Normashearer ) sent me the image to add to my collection. As the image deserves to be seen by many, and on asking Cam he said it was o.k. for me to include it here on the forum, so enjoy.
  • Beautiful poster.

    Peter
  • lovely
  •

From the silent film period an Australian  theatre owner's notice to patrons. One has to wonder how successful he was in having all the items listed adhered to?

My modern day annoyance is patrons who rattle chip packets throughout most of the screening time of the movie, and to those who don't turn off their mobile phones.

  • Every now and then when wondering if any great Australian silent period long daybill gems will ever surface again, thankfully they do.

Wil ( Collectahollic ) sent the following images to me today and said I could display them here on the forum, and I thank him for that.

The Ten Commandments ( 1923 ) Signed by John Richardson
The Lost World ( 1925 ) Signed by Wynne W. Davies
    Queen Of Sheba (1921) Unsigned
The Meanest Man In The World ( 1923 ) Signed by Wynne W. Davies
Husbands And Lovers ( 1924 ) Signed by Wynne W. Davies

Beautiful posters indeed with The Lost World and Queen Of Sheba being my favourites,

Wil has since added the images to his Gallery Facebook page.
  • Magnificent posters,
  • fantastic. I cam across a 10 Commandments in poor shape a few years ago but the guy wouldn't sell it.
  •
Film distributors certainly knew how to promote their product in-house in the 1930's in the main  larger showcase city cinemas

The following lobby card image of Waterloo Bridge ( 1931 ) will give you an idea of how beautiful the large poster displays would have looked like to the patrons who viewed them in the theatre..

  • Superb daybills, it's interesting how many more 20's long daybills have appeared versus those from 1930 to 35.
  •

The Bible... In The Beginning  ( 1966 ) Spanish film  posters. What is interesting about these two posters is that the film was released worldwide by 20th Century Fox, yet the above poster on the left contains a Radio Pictures logo. This logo was used by RKO Radio Pictures from the late 1920's and early 1930's. This logo of course was replaced then by  the use of an RKO Radio Pictures titled logo. RKO ceased operations in 1959.

The Radio Pictures version would certainly appear to have been the poster produced for the 1966 Spanish first release. The second 20th Century Fox poster has been credited as being a 1975 re-release by Bruce.

The RKO connection with 20th Century Fox in the 1960's is odd indeed. The vast majority of Fox 1960's Spanish release film posters have no additional  mention of Radio Pictures. On saying that I have located a total of 14 film titles that have the 20th Century Fox and the Radio Pictures logos appearing on them.

Also located were other Spanish film posters from the 1960's with the Radio Pictures logo appearing on them. One from AIP and also two French films. If I had time to search further I am sure i would find more examples.

The Radio Pictures Spanish distribution in the 1960's is very interesting indeed.

  • Hi, HONDO ! Thank you for the shout out about this spanish posters :)

I found the same version of "La Biblia... en su principio", the left one, with the "20th Century Fox" logo, I don't know if is another posterior release, but I just sent a message to the seller, maybe he has more information about it

I can even buy the two versions, they are very cheap, not sure if I can get too much information from them, but I can try

Have you those posters yourself ?

  • edited August 2022
Thanks for the reply Diego and the new image. No I don't have the posters. Thanks for contacting the seller as well. Probably doesn't know anything, but you never know.

Have you noticed the Radio Pictures logo on Spanish posters previously to me bringing up this subject?
  • Hi ! No, I didn't know about the "Radio Films" ( is not "Radio Pictures", but "Radio Films", the spanish filial ) logo, to be honest, I don't know too much about companies around the movies World, I just like movies and art. But I know a lot more now thanks to you ! Hehehe !

I have some facts and a though

I found in "Survey of American Listed Corporations: Registrants and Subsidiaries, 1945", Google books, that RKO had a lot of subsidiaries all over the World, all of them with the "RKO" before the name, except for four of them : from Japan, Spain, I think Portugal and Poland, the subsidiaries there didn't have it, just the name "Radio Films"; in Spain was "Radio Films, S.A.E.", with headquaters in Paseo de Gracia, 76, Barcelona, but also with offices in Madrid, Valencia, Sevilla, Bilbao and La Coruña ("Información comercial española, Números 86-102", Google Books)

I also found the "RKO Radio Pictures" logo was and still is copyrighted ( https://www.trademarkia.com/trademarks-search.aspx?tn=Radio+Pictures&page=1 )

Maybe, when RKO died in 1957, the spanish filial started their own distribution, but, as they can't use the RKO logo, they used that other logo, not copyrighted ? That is a suposition, I didn't found the "Radio Films" logo copyright info

Anyway, a lof of other movies have that logo in Spain, from 1957 to 1970, I found a list of 95 movies, but I suppose will exist more :
"JOHN Y MARY", "¿QUIÉN SOY YO?", "CHACALES DEL DESIERTO", "ADIÓS, AMIGO", "EL ESTRANGULADOR DE BOSTON", "100 RIFLES", "SHALAKO", "LA SOMBRA DEL ZAR AMARILLO", "DITIRAMBO", "EL CANDOROSO PICAPLEITOS", "GUÍA PARA EL HOMBRE CASADO", "VOLVER A VIVIR", "BANDOLERO!", "CRÓNICA DE UN ATRACO", "EL PLANETA DE LOS SIMIOS", "EL VALLE DE LAS MUÑECAS", "CAPRICHO", "EN GHENTAR SE MUERE FÁCIL", "GUAPA, INTRÉPIDA Y ESPÍA", "RASPUTÍN", "F DE FLINT", "HACIA LOS GRANDES HORIZONTES", "EL FILO DEL MIEDO", "PASIÓN DE LOS FUERTES", "CÓMO ROBAR UN MILLÓN Y...", "EL TIGRE SE PERFUMA CON DINAMITA", "VIAJE ALUCINANTE", "DOS VIVALES EN FUERTE ÁLAMO", "LOS RAÍLES DEL CRIMEN", "LOS OJOS PERDIDOS", "JULIETA ENGAÑA A ROMEO", "BRILLANTE PORVENIR", "VIENTO EN LAS VELAS", "ADIÓS, CHARLIE", "PERSECUCIÓN A UN ESPÍA", "UNA YANQUI EN EL HARÉN", "RÍO CONCHOS", "MORITURI", "PAN, AMOR Y...", "EL TORMENTO Y EL ÉXTASIS", "LA PUERTA DE LAS SIETE CERRADURAS", "REGALO PARA SOLTERO", "APÁRTATE, CARIÑO", "UNA PISTOLA AL AMANECER", "EL INSPECTOR", "ENTRE DOS FUEGOS", "SANDOKAN", "10, CALLE FREDERICK", "EL BUEN AMOR", "LOS DERECHOS DE LA MUJER", "TODOS A CASA", "EL BUSCAVIDAS", "¡QUÉ BELLO ES VIVIR!", "LA TENTACIÓN VIVE ARRIBA", "SIEMPRE TÚ Y YO", "CARTOUCHE", "EL AÑO PASADO EN MARIENBAD", "SOLA ANTE EL PELIGRO", "PÁNICO INFINITO", "EL TESORO DE PANCHO VILLA", "SUAVE ES LA NOCHE", "HORIZONTES DE LUZ", "LA OBSESIÓN", "UNA ISLA CON TOMATE", "EL ROSTRO", "REGRESO A PEYTON PLACE", "EL POBRE GARCÍA", "ALMA ARAGONESA", "ROCCO Y SUS HERMANOS", "LA LLAVE", "EL PUENTE", "¡PÓRTATE BIEN!", "EL REY CRUEL", "SÓLO PARA HOMBRES", "TRÍO DE DAMAS", "REGRESO DE LA ETERNIDAD", "LOS ECONÓMICAMENTE DÉBILES", "LAS DOS Y MEDIA Y... VENENO", "AL CAPONE", "MAXIME (BELLO AMOR)", "EL GRAN CIRCO", "LA FIEL INFANTERÍA", "MIENTRAS NUEVA YORK DUERME", "EL CONQUISTADOR DE MONGOLIA", "MÁS ALLÁ DE LA DUDA", "ANSIEDAD TRÁGICA", "YUMA", "GUARDIAS DE ROMA", "LA NOCHE Y EL ALBA", "ANA DICE SÍ", "LUNA DE VERANO", "AMANECER SANGRIENTO", "LAS MUCHACHAS DE AZUL", "LA FRONTERA DEL MIEDO", "AMOR A REACCIÓN",

Here you have some of the posters :

By the way, if you are interested in spanish posters and you think I can help, I'm here ;)

    Cheers !

  • Thanks Diego for the great  informative information  that you took the time to research, and have included here.  I have found a couple of conflicting details with some information though that I have just located similar details on,

The list of films I will look into shortly, but the Spanish titles will slow me down a little. Once I complete checking into a couple of things and the listed film titles I will respond here in depth.

Once again great information and images which is much appreciated..
  • O.k. I had a brief look into the list of 95 movies that you sent to me Diego . I checked out mainly the titles with English words or similar looking spelling to English titles. The very limited number of U.S .titles that I confirmed were released by Radio Films in Spain  were mainly  from 20th Century Fox, one from Allied Artists, and also one actually originating from RKO Radio. The Allied Artists and RKO Radio examples appear below.

The following posters of Morituri ( 1965 ) and Caprice ( 1967 ), both from 20th Century Fox that appeared on your list are both missing the Radio Films logo. Interestingly the Morituri poster is also missing a 20th Century Fox logo and Caprice has two Fox logos on it.

    You had posted -

''I found in "Survey of American Listed Corporations: Registrants and Subsidiaries, 1945", Google books, that RKO had a lot of subsidiaries all over the World, all of them with the "RKO" before the name, except for four of them : from Japan, Spain, I think Portugal and Poland, the subsidiaries there didn't have it, just the name "Radio Films"; in Spain was "Radio Films, S.A.E.", with headquaters in Paseo de Gracia, 76, Barcelona, but also with offices in Madrid, Valencia, Sevilla, Bilbao and La Coruña ("Información comercial española, Números 86-102", Google Books)''

This is interesting as the full RKO Radio films logo was used on their film posters up to the latter part  or the 1950's in Spain. Some examples from the 1930's, 1940's and 1950's  appear below

I actually located in the U.S.A. trade publication The Film Daily Yearbook Of Motion Pictures 1960, listed under Spanish film distributors RKO Radio Films at Paseo de Gracia 76, Barcelona. The information being for 1959 and it would appear they very slow in updating overseas information. There was also listed in this section from Japan an entry of RKO Pictures Of Japan Ltd. Poland and Portugal were countries not included in the listings for whatever reason.

    You had posted -

''Maybe, when RKO died in 1957, the spanish filial started their own distribution, but, as they can't use the RKO logo, they used that other logo, not copyrighted ? That is a suposition, I didn't found the "Radio Films" logo copyright info''

I believe this is exactly what took place, but as you say only supposition, but everything certainly points to this being the case though.

Thanks again Diego for your imput.

I will continue in researching this subject and if anything else comes to light I will then include it here.

  • Hi, HONDO ! Very good research !

About the titles, I think you can find easily the english titles if you just copy and paste every title in the searh of the imdb website. If I put "¡QUÉ BELLO ES VIVIR!" (or any other title) in the imdb seach box, I get directly "It's a Wonderful Life".

And about the movie posters without "Radio Films" logo, I think is because, same as with "La Biblia", they did two version of the posters. I send you the versions with "Radio Films" logo of the same movies you posted :

Also, Curiously (or not) in the "Capricho" poster you posted with two "20th Century FOX" logos looks like that second bottom right logo was intended to cover the "Radio Films" logo (?) I think match perfectly ! I suppose is a later relase. What do you think ?

    Cheers !

  • Thank you Diego for your kind comment.

The It's A Wonderful Life poster that you mentioned.

Yes I can search out the Spanish titles that you listed, and I will probably do that over a period of time as it will be a liitle time consuming..

The reason for two versions of The Bible, Morituri and Caprice are a mystery to me. I can understand The Bible being re-released but not Caprice and  certainly not for Morituri.

Do you happen to know if Radio Films released films in Spain after the 1960's?
  • edited August 2022
    Hi !

¡ Sorry ! I didn't figure out you can see very easily the original titles in the same website I found the list of movies ! You can click in every title and will send you to a new page with the original name and other data; "Radio Films" movies :
    https://www.eldoblaje.com/Datos/FichaOcupacion.asp?id=70625&ocupacion=distribuidora

And you also have in the same website a list of "Radio Films" and "RKO Radio Films" movies, as distribution company, production company or original distribution company :
    https://www.eldoblaje.com/datos/KeywordResults.asp?keyword=radio films

But be aware this website is about DUBBING movies, so maybe the years are not accurate, because it must took months for movies at that time to came to Spain and be dubbed

About the "Radio Films" after 1969, I can only see a spanish movie "¿ Quién soy yo ?", wich was also produced by "Radio Films", maybe they tried to start producing instead, but that didn't work ?

"John and Mary" movie was dubbed in 1970, but was released in USA in december 1969, so, maybe that was the last international one distributed by "Radio Films"

I found some interesting things, like a lead seal of "Radio Films", very deteriorated, for sell in a bid, about 12 € now, finishing in 2 days

And also manual programs of a few movies, with the "Radio Films" logo, all for sell, very cheap, about 7 €

That one is from "Valley of the Dolls", 1967

I also found, as a curiosity, a pic of the "Radio Films" building :

Can't find the story behing "Radio Films", except how started, wich is not the subject here, but I suppose someone will know something. If I find something more, including why the poster versions, I'll tell you

    Cheers !

  • Fascinating information Diego and thank you for locating it, then including it here.

I will check out all the Radio Films and the RKO Radio Films listed on the link that you included here. This will most likely take some time to   accomplish, but once I do this I will respond here again.

Nice entrance to the ''Radio Films'' building. I wonder when that photograph was taken?

One thing I will comment on now is that I have located in Spain in 1960, listed under Spanish film distributors included in an America trade publication, there isn't an entry for 20th Century Fox . It would certainly appear that Radio Films were the Spanish film distributor in the 1960's for 20th Century Fox product until likely circa 1970. I have also to this point of time confirmed Radio Films released a limited number of films from Allied Artists from the U.S.A. as well in the very early part of the 1960's.There most likely will be more titles from AA released by Radio Films still to be located.

Thanks for your ongoing  interest and researching into Radio Films.

And cheers to you as well,
  • A new topic.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        In Australia British Empire Films had multiple artwork options to use to produce an Australian daybill for the British film Passionate Summer ( 1958 ).

Following below are three examples of original U.K. poster artwork that was available to B.E.F. and the Australian daybill that they ended up producing. Australian censorship guidelines of course would have been the reason the tamer artwork was adapted here.

  • There were sixteen films released by Columbia Pictures in a series of Jungle Jim titles between 1948 and 1955. The films were produced by Sam Katzman, a prolific producer of low-budget genre feature films and serials.

I have original first release printed colour daybill images for thirteen of the sixteen titles. I am keen to add the mages of the missing three titles to my collection.

The missing Australian daybill images are for Mark Of The Gorilla, Fury Of The Congo and Killer Ape. Images of the U.S.A. insert posters for these three titles appear below.

If any images of these titles are spotted at any time I would much appreciate them being posted here on this thread, Any Australian three sheet  images, apart from Devil Goddess and Jungle moon Men images that I have, would be appreciated also.
  • edited August 2022
Thanks John for the Killer Ape and Fury Of The Congo rare Australian daybill images. They cannot be found on Google or on your website, so great for you to post them here.

We now have fifteen out of the sixteen original printed daybills with available images. Mark Of The Gorilla daybill, where are you?
  • If any images of these titles are spotted at any time I would much appreciate them being posted here on this thread, Any Australian three sheet  images, apart from Devil Goddess and Jungle moon Men images that I have, would be appreciated also.
Hi, HONDO ! On ebay you can get the "Killer Ape" one ( https://www.ebay.com/itm/265557768454 ), but is very pricy, about $400. If some day I saw something you want, I'll contact you, of course. Cheers !

Just realized that I had earlier, as seen above, stated that I was also looking for Australian three sheets. What I had meant to say was Australian one sheets and not three sheets.

Now Diego thank you for offering to assist me at any time. Although the design is similar,  the poster up for sale is actually a U.S.A. insert poster. It is only Australian posters that I am seeking images of. Thank you again though in attempting to assist me, which is much appreciated.

By the way do you ever sight an Australian vintage posters advertised for sale in Spain.
  • Oh ! Sorry was not what you were looking for.
I just look for australian posters, not sure how "vintage" you want them. I found a few here :
    https://www.todocoleccion.net/buscador?bu=australia&sec=carteles-posters-cine&O=menos
If you need something of that, just tell me what
Maybe I can find something else in other places
    Cheers !

  • Interestingly The Blonde Captive Spanish poster included on the above Spanish website yesterday, and then displayed on the Rare Non Australian Posters Posters Of Australian Films forum thread, has now vanished
  • Hi ! Do you mean vanished from "todocoleccion" website ? If so, since a month ago a lot of the sellers were in holidays, they come back today or tomorrow; people was able to buy in august but the seller don't send the items ultil they come back; they must be catching up with sold items right now. Cheers !
