I think The Fast and the Furious is one of those that fell into public domain, so it should be easy to track down on some streaming channel - probably even YouTube - should you find yourself desperate enough for programming. Not a bad movie, but definitely not a life changer. Probably a good thing the run time is 73 minutes. It is, however, technically the first film from what would become AIP.
Is it exploitation? Is it SEXploitation? Is it cinematic crap?? You be the judge (for yourself - don't damage my super fragile sense of self poster worth). Kidding of course. Fire away. This post is half actual cinema stuff and half complete fabrication. To start, here's an 8x12.5 inch herald from our friends at the Benton Card Company. In pressbook fashion, it sort of makes a double feature poster out of 2 films that otherwise wouldn't have shown up on a poster together. My plans for this are to have a slightly larger poster made of it to hang with the other posters of it's ilk around here. Watch this space for further developments:
Next up, I was doing a general Google search for 50's hot rod posters, and this poster popped up in the images generated by the search. It was (is) offered through Etsy by an independent artist, so I went to Etsy to find that it was only offered in the usual 11x17 size. I messaged the artist about offering larger sizes, and while I thought that 27x40 would be groovy, that 24x36 would be more commercially viable for him, should he do a print run of that size. Already long story short, he cleaned up the image and made sure that the enlargement wouldn't be pixillated and had the 24x36 size printed out for me. It's currently making it's way from the great Canadian north to the southern climes of 'Murica:
It's marginally distracting, not in either a good or bad way I suppose, that the gal pictured looks like Avril Lavigne, but it is what it is, I suppose. This will look good wedged somewhere between the hot roddy stuff and my Sky Captain SDCC poster:
That's it. That's all the excitement I can offer at the moment. Now go wash yer damn hands.
Wow!! Wow!!! WOW!!! What a great installment. The press kit poster idea is brilliant and that image would make a marvy poster. DRAGSTRIP VIXEN AND THE ROBOT ZOMBIE is awesome. Too bad it's not a real flick. The SKY CAPTAIN poster is better than the one sheets...and better than the actual film. Nice all around. (Applause! Applause! Applause!)
*WARNING* Only proceed further because of severe insomnia, or the kind of literary boredom that makes one read the back of a shampoo bottle while using the restroom.
Well, we've warned you...
This half sheet is not at all attractive with regards to artwork. There are certainly fuglier posters, yes, but the purchase of this one was brought on by some odd sense of complete-ism or poster neuroses to be able to display the small slice of cinema history dealing with crappy parenting. I did look in Bruce's archives (thank you, Bruce) to see if I should hold out for the 1 sheet, but it's not much of an improvement.
These I already have, so maybe I can manage to display 'em together at some point:
Anyhow, these are promotional posters for an actual movie, but despite screenings in lots of places, I don't believe it ever had a theatrical release. The movie does (for car geeks anyway) have a well done 1 sheet (even though I'm pretty sure it's 24x36). These, if memory serves, are 18x24. Those are inch measurements of course, because despite the metric system being in use since at least the mid-1800's, the US, like our pals Burma and Liberia, don't feel the need to join the metric system house party.
That's it. Hopefully you have some antacids and/or a strong drink handy to cope with the nausea and disappointment. With any luck, someone will create a December recent acquisitions thread to help you forget all about this.
HAPPY er, ummmm, cripes, I dunno. Happy SOMETHING, dammit! It's Wednesday. Happy hump day, maybe? Anyhow, I'm sitting at the desktop, listening to a "best of" Johnny Mercer collection on my mp3 player (what a tech dinosaur I am) and searching the help wanted ads. As a brief respite from that, how about a handful more posters? Take all the time you need to assuage the impending excitement. Maybe breathe into a paper bag or stir up a stiff toddy. Here are 3 that are on their journey across the pond. Not surprisingly, they're more fodder in the vein of maladjusted teens:
(known over here as Daddy-O)
(known over here as Hot Rod Rumble)
Here's one that originated over here, and has probably the best combination of artwork and title for the juke box enthusiast:
And lastly, a few days ago I was doing a general Google search for hot rod movie posters and ran across another "fantasy" movie poster in the same vein as Dragstrip Vixen and the Robot Zombie as posted recently. I found an interview article with the artist, Chris Wilkinson, that gave an email address for him at the conclusion of the article. I sent an email off to him asking if he had made or would consider making prints of his design that could be purchased. I didn't receive a reply, so I took one of the images and had a 17x30 inch print made of it. That's another poster that's in the mail system and not here yet, but it'll be kinda cool to have another landscape oriented poster to frame and put up:
He also made a 1 sheet style, but I couldn't get a decent photo file to use to have a print made of that format:
That's it for now. Even for the multitudes who aren't into this kinda pap, it'll give you something to check out for a minute or two. Take care y'all, and keep yourselves and those you care about safe and virus-free.
Hey! Great additions to your collection. DOWNBEAT is known as DADDY-O here and I have been trying to score a DADDY-O one sheet for a long while. The other quads are cool, but the JUKE BOX RACKET is really fab. HOT ROD GANG FROM OUTER SPACE is awesome. I especially like the one sheet. Too bad that it's not a real flick (and it was 3D---waaaagh!) and music by The Jive Aces! Ha!
Hey gang, it's been quite some time since I actively posted anything, but I've still checked in pretty frequently. I noticed that there's no October recent acquisitions thread yet, so it's probably time to fire up the couple threads I have and get caught up with posting my purchases, and in the other thread post pics of stuff that's been framed and or made it up on a wall. I went through my list of purchases and tried to eliminate anything I've posted previously, but if I still manage to post something that I have already, we'll just chalk it up to early onset poster dementia. These are not at all in any kind of order, especially of excitement or interest to the poster loving public. So, without further ado:
This is one that I purchased as an impulse BIN on the 'bay, and have since sold on the same venue:
This is just a repro poster, as it hasn't been high enough on my want list to pay the big bucks people ask for the genuine article. If I run across a less expensive 1 sheet at some point, I'll snag it then:
As always, my apologies about the size of these pics. A tech genius I'm not, so the proper adjustment of such still eludes me.
This one was inexpensive, and kind of touches on a bad girl/automotive theme, so I picked it up. My posters folder on the computer suggests I already have a 1 sheet. I'll have to double check that. The pic for this is tiny because at the time of the auction I forgot to save the photo, and all that's left now on ebay is a thumbnail. Ugh.
Here's another that I didn't save a picture of in time, so I just went on ebay and saved a pic of one currently on offer. Another Pixar short, these are advertised as cast/crew posters, but who knows. Still a bit more scarce than the theatrical posters.
Here's one I'd like to have a proper poster for, but I did manage to score a pressbook with the same art. It's framed up, so I'll post it in my other thread as well:
At this point in my update to this thread, it's become annoyingly obvious to me where I went through a stretch that I didn't save pictures of many purchases. There's at least 7 on my list at this point that I went to post, but no pic. I'll have to make a list of those, get 'em out of the flat file and snap some pics. My laziness has finally become the monster that came back to destroy me.
Carrying on, I'd like to have 1 sheets for all of AIP's quad-feature showings, but they're usually too expensive. Fortunately, I found an affordable one that's the most up my collecting alley:
I hope this isn't one I've posted before. It seems like it was a relatively recent purchase, but I'm not entirely sure. Like the Racing Youth herald I showed a while back, I thought it might be cool to have a poster print made of the cover, inside or both on this one:
Continuing on with the devil theme, I was glad to add this to the automotive related movie poster collection. It'll display nicely with the Hell's Highway documentary poster (with art by Reynold Brown) I have framed up and will post in my other thread:
And we'll leave off with the devil theme for today as well. Many times being a completist ain't pretty, and there isn't a lot to be said for this (60's, I'd guess) rerelease of Hot Rod Rumble. It's just duo-tone, and the poster paper itself is yellow:
I'll be back soon with more, but until then, be good, stay safe, and give the ones you love an extra hug.
Wow! Wow! WOW!!! What a nice haul. STRIP TEASE HOLDUP, while having wear issues, is great! Exploitation Madness, baby! The AIP 4 feature poster screams out to me--LOVE IT! I also dig the DEVIL TAKE US---religious scare film? Who knows? Great poster though. Fab-o-rama! Thanks for posting.
Thanks for dropping in, and thanks for the kind words. According to IMDB, the gist of Devil Take Us was a theatrical short about the dangers of careless driving. It's probably them dang teenagers in their hopped up jalopies! Sadly, it doesn't seem to be on youtube, so I can't check it out.
A short? And you snagged the poster. AWESOME! Good for you. Those have to be far rarer than a theatrical release---like your nifty Pixar poster.. Another cool snag you got. Great stuff all around.
Thanks, Matias. Like yourself, I just keep an eye out for the cool and unusual, and sometimes the poster planets align and we end up snagging something that doesn’t break the bank.
Hello again, fellow poster freaks and geeks. Another day, another opportunity to get caught up with acquisitions. Again, In no particular order:
I bought this subway poster strictly as garage art, and it's hanging there proudly as we speak:
This one I was quite happy to get, as they're either pretty scarce or they just don't pop up very often:
This is a stock poster (obviously) with the name of the theatrical short painted on. Not as colorfully graphic as AIP's hot rod titles were, but another I'm happy to have found: *note* it's not life changing-ly exciting, but this one is available (in two parts) on youtube to watch.
I had one of these half sheets in the distant past, but sold it at some point, so I managed to source another:
Another older motorsport title, this one in insert form:
We'll leave it off at half a dozen for now, as I'm sure the excitement from these is almost too much to bear. Staying with the racing theme again. This may not have got a wide theatrical release, as it was well pre-covid (2013), but genuine posters for it seem pretty scarce. This one is a tad beat up, but another I was glad to stumble across:
Oooo. Look at you. Holding out for weeks...and now, a bumper crop o' poster goodness. I dig JUKE BOX JENNY and ROAR OF THE CROWD the most. Vroom! Vroom! Can't wait to see what is next. Cheers
Oh Wow...Partly cloudy is fantastic. I have my FOR THE BIRDS that needs a frame and place on the wall I am pretty sure i have one of those ford V Ferrari OS here somewhere, if yer want a real one...I'll check and be in touch.
Thanks, Ves. You're more than welcome to Partly Cloudy if you'd like it. It's odds of ever seeing time hanging on the wall here aren't that great. I can send it along with the ginormous Brave banner, and you and the girls can Pixar yourselves silly.
Alllllllllllrighty then! This post will almost get me caught up with acquisitions, but I can think of a handful still that I need to snap pics of. I'm going to eliminate posting the Road Demon and Pepito lobbies here, as they show up in the framing thread anyhow. This post is in kind of a particular order, as I'll go from least to most interesting to me. Your results may vary. Ask your doctor if these posters are right for you.
This half sheet I picked up inexpensively, hoping to flip it at some point to buy something more up my collecting alley. Having said that though, it does have a mighty amusing tagline:
Here's a handful of inserts, all decent additions to their respective collections:
Like many of my acquisitions, this one is condition challenged, but it's another difficult 1 sheet to track down:
This one is an oversized 1 sheet and a rerelease title, as those exploitation-y things go, so until I can find a Virgin In Hollywood 1 sheet, I have:
A better exploitation title to be sure, this one is 30x40:
A scarce title and definitely condition challenged, but I'm glad to have for the 50's 3D collection:
Heading across the pond a bit, yet another one that's difficult to track down, a Danish 1 sheet for Hot Rod Girl:
And lastly for now, a pretty common 1 sheet, but more difficult to find affordably:
Real life demolition derby footage was apparently decided by the Canadian film censors to be too violent for younger children to be admitted into cinemas to see.
We can double check with Chris, but I'm pretty sure that demolition derby serves as Canadian driver's training for new drivers, so the kiddies will see it sooner or later.
Interestingly this film title isn't listed on the IMDB website.
I've found lately that IMDB isn't all that we'd like it to be - especially when it comes to the more obscure stuff. Some research I was doing for a German film released in Australia turned up a US One Sheet, some B&W stills and a UK Quad, but IMDB doesn't show the film as having an English language release.
Their search parameters are a bit iffy too - sometimes their AKAs are buried in areas like the distribution company credits which their search engine doesn't pick up.
