    X80 The Leopard Man (1943)
Correct and well worked out. one of Val Lewton's well regarded 1940's RKO Radio B films.

  • I was thinking Cat People or Curse of the Cat People...so I was close!

    Peter
  •  X81
    Another scary one,
  • X81. The 4 Skulls of Johnathon Drake.
But that was an image search, and I've  never even heard of this one.

Correct. The Four Skulls Of Jonathan Drake from 1959. Ambitious tagline.

  •  X82
What are these extras running away from you may wonder.
  • X82 The Giant Spider Invasion.

My first thought was the closing scene in Hair, but that's not a B film.

Correct. Well done. The Giant Spider Invasion from 1975.

  •    Both X83
As I believe this film will most likely be a little difficult to identity, two images are provided this time around.
  • X83 clue is not wanted on voyage.

Not on the ocean. Think much higher up.

  • Terror from Beyond Space (1958) - one of the films that inspired Alien.

Terror from Beyond Space (1958) - one of the films that inspired Alien.
Correct for X83. The full title being It! The Terror From Beyond Space.

One of the better films of this genre, and normally not something that I would watch, but I can recommend this one.

There is a lot of great poster artwork  available in the marketplace for this title.

  •  X84
I feel that I need to mention that the above scene is from a film that has previously been featured here on this quiz,

Added  now as there is a personal connection involved with a Hollywood legend that was featured in the original scene I had posted of thjs film. Over years things do change.
  • Another X84 clue is a film career was assisted in later life by a long time friend.
  • Good clues.  I especially liked the hints with the actor connections.  She gave him an early break and he reciprocated with small parts in several of his biggest films.

I am not rushing to answer because I seem to be doing too many recently
  • At least I will have someone on stand bye in case no one else manages to come up with the answer.

Some more clues to hopefully assist others though are that the two connected people were both born in the same year, and are still living today. The actress you are looking for most likely is best remembered for two science fiction / horror films that she starred in.

    Good luck..
  • A final X 84 clue is that the actress in question has the same uncommon  christian name as another prominent 1950's actress.

I was thinking it is unusual for one of the two actresses not to have earlier in their careers changed their christian stage name to something else .

With X84, and after four days it would certainly appear that no one is going to answer this one.

I certainly would like for you to provide us with the answer if you don't mind, as tt would appear you are the only person to know the identity of this film.
  • Tarantula (1955), took a while but  got there in the end.

Tarantula (1955), took a while but  got there in the end.
X84 answered , so a very good effort for persevering.

In 1955 Mala Powers was a name star at Universal-International, if mainly headlining B films. Also appearing  in Tarantula! was a young contract player named Clint Eastwood who had a small tole as a fighter pilot in the film. During their time at Universal they became friends and have remained good friends up until now.

Mala married fellow Universal actor Richard Long in 1957 and left Hollywood and acting in the early 1960's to concentrate on family life. She later returned to the screen after her husband actor Richard Long passed away in 1974. Between 1977 and 1990  she appeared in small roles  in four films for her good friend Clint Eastwood. The films being, The Gauntlet, Sudden Impact, Pink Cadillac and The Rooker. A memorable dramatic scene from Sudden Impact from 1983 appears below

Thank you Bruce . More than happy to share.
  • Some additional information regarding X84 is that Mara Corday also starred in The Black Scorpion (1957 ).  As some members may know this film  was recently discussed on Hondo's This And That Thread.

I had previously incorrectly listed the actress in question, Mara Corday's name to have been Mala Powers and also her having the same Christian name as her, which of course isn't the case. I apparently had a bad day at the office. Correct information in the brain,  but for some reason came out the wrong way. The earlier mentions of Mala Powers and of just Mala should have been Mara Corday and Mara.

Mala Powers was the other 1950's actress  that I had been referring to. She is seen below playing Roxanne in the 1950 film Cyrano de Bergerac alongside Jose Ferrer., Sorry for any confusion this possibly may have caused.

This request no longer applies now of course as Peter managed to work out with the correct answer with the help of the clues that I had provided..

Nice to know you were there though in the background knowing the answer.
  •   X85  X86
    Something in common here.
  • X85 is The Fastest Guitar Alive with Roy Orbison
  • jayn_j said:

Correct. The Fastest Guitar Alive (1967) was a disastrous failed attempt by MGM to make Roy Orbison a movie star.

  • X86 is Ballad of a Gunfighter starring another singer, Marty Robbins who was billed as "The nation's top western recording artist"

Correct. Ballad Of a Gunfighter from 1964.  Marty Robbins I believe wished he was a cowboy. I actually got to meet him at a concert he gave in Newcastle in the 1960s.
