Hopefully the black friday is 40" long

Heritage are advertising the poster as being 14.5'' X 30''. Bruce has two images of the Black Friday daybill that were sold on his website in the past as having  been described as 15'' x 40'' and 14 3/ 4'' x 40''.
  • I don't think anyone can read anything into the description until the poster is uploaded, at the moment I suspect that is just a placeholder until the photo is supplied at which time the measurements are made.
  • Yes good point David.
  • I see Heritage have a RR Kong daybill listed as a 1968 with an M rating. Hmmm...
  • Heritage did that? No way.
  • i thought it was 68? what is the correct year?

It is 1970s and post November 1971 when the M classification was introduced in Australia.
  • Oh dear...this makes their whole 'post war' dating efforts look even sicker. Future Daybill Description by Heritage may now look something like this:

"Here is a poster, it is purty"
  • Slightly in defence of Heritage, it could be argued that the poster is for the official 1968 release albeit delayed in Australia. Note the tagline "the original uncut version - unseen for 35 years". The Australian posters were obviously printed for a screening in Australia until about 1972/2 but it does correspond with the US release.

Also, Heritage puts the year of the films release in the title (as many sellers do) but the descriptions are noting the date as either "pre war" or "post war" meaning that they are not going to pin down the actual date of Australian release which is often different to US release dates.

  • And then we have this daybill:

  • A Post War daybill!

    That works for me too.
  • On that basis a poster for The Terminator could accurately be described as pre-apocalyptic...
  • All British posters just went on sale....
  • Never seen one of these before, and judging by the current bidding nor have many others

For some reason Australian long daybills printed for Columbia Pictures are probably the rarest of the major film distributors from that period to locate and don't often appear for sale.
  • Bidding now open. Seeing a LOT of silent movie posters this time round (more than I remember normally).

Not seen this one before, that said, Jane Russell is looking a little like Frida Kahlo

    Kids are happy

Yes, I keep re-assuring myself of this...I hope so.
  • Adopt me?
  • Nah, the minute I let you in the door, my NY NY daybill will be toast!

  • Maybe...but you'd never prosecute your newly adopted son, so I am in the clear.

    GWTW?
  • Nah, I never liked that poster (sorry sue me - though I am told it is fabulous in person - so if I ever see one, might change my mind)

I wonder how much my distaste for the poster is based on the fact that I can't stand her in that movie...haven't made it through the whole thing till this day...and before you kill me, I LOVE her...she is fantabulous in Streetcar!  Just shows what a superb actress she was to garner such strong emotion from me.  Believe, my response to the vast number of movies and characters is...meh...
