That's what they said when I got my first Playboy magazine...

How wrong they were - the articles were very thought provoking.

The poster is super rare if one can say that. No I haven't seen the daybill and as you are I am also looking forward to seeing it soon.

The U.S. insert is great but there is no way the daybill will be will be as good as the insert artwork is. I have a folder of images from the Australian distributor of all the London Films daybills I have managed to find images of over many years. The output is mainly from W.E. Smith so you know the quality is mainly always very good. The one thing that does worry me a little is a lot of the titles have duotone versions also and some are almost the same design as the original colour versions such as The Sound Barrier and are o.k.  but alas there are others such as Devil on Horseback and two versions of Hobson's choice ( one in particular ) that are sub standard. Let us hope the version HA have to auction is the original colour version and not a second printing in duotone and the artwork is on the top scale of the artwork W.E.Smith were known for.

I surely doubt a duotone Daybill would make HA's Signature auction

More than likely you are correct but would rarity of a poster and being science fiction influence them to include it if it wasa duotone version? What are their guidelines for this Signature auction then? They must be slipping as they have a B grade movie in Hong Kong Confidential included which Bruce sold for only $9 in 2012. Surely a duotone daybill of Devil Girl From Mars would fare better at Auction than Hong Kong Confidential ? I am sure I know which one would bring the higher price.  All this talk and it most likely is a full colour version anyway.
  • I'm with David (for a change)...seeing it is a signature auction, tipping it won't be too shabby...

We can't have that - I've changed my mind.

It'll be a monotone, rolled, and a printer's proof to boot.

    Now THAT'S rare...
  • Awesome...one less person bidding!
  • Remember I did clearly say previously '' More than likely you are correct'' but don't expect anything spectacular. I believe it will be an above average design and not a busy colourful poster anything like the U.S. insert in design.

    You too huh?

    :p
  • Dunno...heard there could be problems with their shipments of any wins, so best no one bids to tech em a lesson!
  • Re bus stop i hope heritage will describe what restoration has been done. For very fine + on linen you would expect minimal maybe fold line touch up

The poster has been restored on linen. Very Fine+ on Linen.

  • Hey Dave just saw your add "Garage find". Any details? What type of posters in the find etc.
  • Exciting David! May i ask the decades of the posters ?

TBH - they're seem to be all Lobby's and Stills, but it will be a while before I get through them to comment, I have the Under the Bed find to sort ( it's true! that's where they've been for several decades - mostly all posters), and then I have the Caravan at the Bottom of the Garden find - I have a backlog of stuff and no time.

  • Devil Girl From Mars disappointing. Duo tone, first release ??

Bus Stop (Nice! Unique! - but think Monroe looks better on the US one sheet - what do others think?)

  • Marilyn looks scary in that Aussie art
  • Arghhhhh...don't fucking remind me that a ebay seller reneged on a Aussie Bus Stop OS

years ago after I won it fair and square.

  • Oh dear.., on both counts.

    1. Agree with Rick, that ain't a purty MM
    2. That's not nice Matty - so I won't bid and give him any of my money.

    Solidarity brothers!

The above looks like to me some other actress doing a MM impersanation.

I am thinking it is possibly a first release daybill similar in limited colour to another minor London Films daybill also printed by F. Cunninghame with a blue and white follow up duotone version as well by a printer uncredited.. I believe a few minor titles may have been given to F. Cunnihghame when W.E.Smith's workload became a little hectic for them and limited colour daybills were produced as first release posters. This doesn't completely rule of an original W.E.Smith full colour version all the same.
  • They just can't get Marilyn right on aussie paper!

Devil Girl...fugly!  Guess the title was enough of a draw for them to add to the signature auction, that and the fact that it seems to be quite rare...fugly, but rare...sure there will still be plenty of interest though.

  • Matt, looking at that Bus Stop Aussie one-sheet you should be thankful the seller reneged
  • At least they got the legs right;)
  • A few more daybills added to HA's sig auction. Call of the wild (1935) Man on the flying trapeze (1935) The air mail pilot (1928) Captain January (1936) Goin to town (1935) and a lovely Aus one sheet for This modern age (1931)

I can't wait for this auction!
