    Let's chuck in some lobbies.

The Cars That Ate Paris Aussie Lobby Card Set - have the set but just posting the one image.
Anyone else have a set or cards???

I saw a set for sale a little while ago in NZ. So unless you bought that set, I'd say there's another set around :-)
Ta...good to know.  Fairly certain it's not the same set, so that makes at least two.
  • Ves - what about your odd orange Fly quad?  Has another one of those popped up?
    Hey Chris,

I have since learned the mysterious origins of my Fly Quad, and as it seems it was a commercial poster printed a while a go (I forget the decade) I am tipping there are a fair few out there...and as it's not a true original release movie poster, certainly doesn't qualify for this thread on two counts :)

I still love it and will keep it though.

Thanks Chris. Apparently I missed seeing The Mystery Of The 13th Guest daybill or did I ?. Thinking back I believe now I have seen it before but for some unknown reason I didn't save an image. I most likely sighted your daybill image on this website Chris. The good news is I have an image now.

Those are the posters. He buys old stock daybills and uses them for advertising in the foyer. Also collects vintage press books and stuff that relate to projection.
    Likes a good chinwag!
From another image I viewed of inside the cinema, it reveals it has some nice looking framed daybill posters  hanging on the wall, including John Wayne's The Northerner ( Dakota ) ( Sorry Chris ), Gentleman's Agreement, Reap The Wild Wind and the only copy of a Monogram / BEF title called The Mystery of The 13th Guest from 1943 that I have ever seen. I will have to check out the cinema next time I am travelling up that way. Great that a cinema of this style is still operating in Lauriton, a small country town of only 1931 or so people.
Take some better of the pictures of the posters please  ;)

I've always wondered about it so that is surprising info!  Still a nice poster and looks great on the wall :)
  • I have never seen another copy , the Daybill is hard to find.

  • I know of at least one other copy of Jedda Aussie OS...unfortunately not mine.

WINNER WINNER CHICKEN DINNER.  FABULOUS!  Leaving it to me when you kark it Paul?  ;)

  • You can just make em out in the background...
The poster on the opposite side side of wall to Charlie Chan In Egypt is Success At Any Price a RKO 1934 film which stars Douglas Faitbanks, Jr. along with Genevieve Tobin and Frank Morgan.

  • Image may contain 4 people people smiling
Here's the one-sheet, really nice despite some tape in the corners
  • Oh nice.  Thanks for taking the time to post the picture Rick.
  • Have also seen Jedda 1sht before. The artwork doesn't have anything on the impressive Colorcraft daybill that's for sure.
Lawrence, you should send McGowan an email. He loves to talk cinema and is happy to take a phone call. He did tell me some of the background on the 3 sheets but it was years ago when I spoke to him last.
  • I'm sure there are other Aussie copies of Deep Red and thunderbirds Are one-sheets but I've never seen them outside my collection.

Ves, what about that small Blood Money db you have with Bryan Brown. Also 1sht with Rodeo horse artwork (forgotten title)? Might have been a film about surfing. I never saw those posters before.
  • Has anyone seen another copy of this one - Seagulls over Sorrento ?

Hi Mark,  Yes I have quite a few titles that I think are one offs in the Aussie collection, but I didn't want to flood this thread with them  I might pick a few to add, including Rolling Home which is a nice one.
  • Without chatting with my cohorts, I love this thread. And it connects to so many other threads.

So I've pinned it. Not that it needs it to be pinned.

Good suggestion Mark and I have already attempted to contact him by telephone, but the only number I could locate is the cinema number that only leaves session time information and it has no provision to leave a message. On his cinema website there doesn't appear to have an email address listed. If you have one or the other or both would you please send me an email with this information as I would love to ask David about his poster collection. If I can contact him and find out any information I would  present it here on this thread.
  • No longer have his email. There are these numbers on the website>>
    InfoLine: 6559 8755
    Business Message: 6559 8077
    Fax: 6559 8000

Thanks Mark. The information line I have tried but it has no provision  to leave a recorded message. Who uses a fax machine these days? I will ring the Business Message number tomorrow and leave a message for David, then see what happens?.
  • Not seen that Seagulls before Sven.
  • Not seen that Seagulls before Sven.

    Me neither.
  • Seagulls is new to me, Sven.
This seems to be only Aussie paper to have turned up for Bright Leaf.

  • Yeah...that's lovely.  I eyeball it off all the time...

Did you present your VMPF discount card to Mark?  ;)

I managed to make contact with David today and what an interesting conversation we had, until work related issues his end had us finishing up talking ( til another time ).We could have spoken for hours had the opportunity arisen I am sure. Some fascinating information gained from him and another contact name I now have for me to persue another line of inquiry. A very friendly and knowledgeable man with many years experience involved in the film industry in one form or another. An avid collector of not only film posters but all types of film related material including film projectors. He never sells his posters and doesn't have photographs or a list of all his titles he owns. When I inquired about the Charlie Chan posters he couldn't remember how many he has.
The good bit of information I received from him was that many years ago when he was installing new seating in the Boomerang Theatre in Brisbane ( no longer with us ), he discovered hundreds of movie posters under the lino in very good condition, with titles ranging from the late 1920's into the 1950's. This then reminded  me of when the last hardtop cinema in Goulburn the Hoyts closed in 1972.The Lieder Theatre company, which I was involved in purchased some seating from the cinema for installing in their Venue the Liedertafel Hall. My haul from there of posters consisted of three Ben-Hur rerelease daybills and a slightly damaged Doctor In Clover daybill. My experience pales in comparison to David's one
I have an invitation to contact him when I happen to be up that way in the future, which I look forward to doing one day.
  • Good work Lawrence!
  • A few from the aussie cinema collection, I would be keen to know if anyone else has one or has seen around.
