Both the above are excellent films, but not from Hollywood.

Correct and well done. Green For Danger from 1946. Alastair Sim is magnificent as the investigating Scotland Yard police inspector.

  • A clue for C410 is history related.
  • A final clue for C410 is foreign language English subtitled arthouse film.
  • Took me a while - Alexander Nevsky (1938)

Yes C410 is the classic Russian film. Excellent work in coming up with the answer Peter.

I screened a 16mm print of the film at the film society that I was involved in many years ago. Some spectacular battles scenes occur in the film.

  •  C411 C412
Two very well known films to be answered this time around.

  • I wasn't going to answer so quickly, but I'm from Melbourne....so - C411 - On The Beach (1959)

Good one Peter. Noticed any changes in Melbourne since the film was shot in 1959, apart from the obvious ones?

Haha! Some places haven't changed, I've never been able to spot Graham Kennedy as an extra in the film though. Apparently he's in a scene in Flinders Street outside the old Classic Restaurant. I once worked with a guy who had the director's chair of Fred Astaire. I'd love to know what happened to it.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Peter. The director's chair would be cool.
  • Last time I saw the chair was in the boot of his car when he was moving stuff out of his garage.

  • A clue for C412 is farewell.

  •
Final clues for C412 are one of the greatest westerns, along with this slightly expanded image.

  • Yeah, Red River (1948)
Thought so earlier, but couldn't match the image. Getting the edge of Coleen Gray's skirt helped nail it.

Yes indeed the correct answer for C412. Truely a classic western film.

  •  C413 C414
Two more images for you to ponder.

  • Both C413 and C414 have something in common.

  • C413 is Ben Hur (1959), they both have the look of biblical epics about them. I was thinking Cleopatra at first for C414 but don't think it is.

    Peter
  • Is C414 Quo Vadis?
  • C413 is Ben Hur (1959), they both have the look of biblical epics about them. I was thinking Cleopatra at first for C414 but don't think it is.
Correct. There wasn't too much to work with in the original posted image, so well done.

It certainly is Quo Vadis from 1951. Peter Ustinov seen  portraying Emperor Nero in the below scene.

  • I agree there wasn't much to work with in the original images but they just had that smell of a biblical epic about them both. Deserts, purple things (reminded me of purple robes)

  •  C415  C416
These two new images may certainly present a challenge for you. If this turns out to be the case there will be a number of clues that will follow later on.
  • Isn't 415 Vera Clouzot from Diabolique?

Correct. The 1955 French film's original title was Les Diaboliques and also released  in the U.K. and Australia as The Fiends. Diabolique was the U.S.A. Film's release title.

  • C416 looks very familiar but can't place it for now, I'll keep thinking over the weekend.

    Peter
  • C416 is Brazil.

Correct and well spotted. Brazil from 1985.

  • Of course!
