Apparently it's the castle one....I didn't read past the camp bit! Guess I have to watch the film now.
The Colditz Story is based on fact.
Allied prisoners -British,Dutch, French and Polish - pool their resources to plan numerous escapes from the ''escape proof'' German P.O.W. camp housed in a Medieval castle knowb as ''Colditz.. IMDB.
There was also a British television series screened 1972-1974 titled Colditz which starred David McCallum. It was based on the real event also.
Never saw the film, but the back story is amazing. Great bit of trivia about the central prop. Won't answer as this is an undiscovered treasure for me.

It certainly would appear that both Jay and Wil know the answer. but are not inclined to reveal the answer. Anyone else care to answer?
406. Albert R.N, with the photograph featuring the studios 'go to' evil German officer, Anton Diffring.
Who also stared in 405. The Colditz Story and a host of other British WW2 films, from Reach for the Sky to Where Eagles Dare.
Correct. I was waiting on you Wil to provide us with the answer. Albert R.N. ( Break To Freedom in the U.S.A.) from 1953.
To inform anyone that doesn't know the film at all the following may be of interest.
In 1944, at a POW camp in Germany the Allied prisoners used a dummy prop named albert to fool the German guards and escape. Also The events concerning Albert are based on fact. (IMDb).
Some good information from Wil on Anton Diffring regarding his British film appearances. He did however have a rare leading man role in a Hammer horror film from 1959 titled The Man Who Could Cheat Death.
From IMDB Artist and illustrator John Worsley, who made the model of "Albert" for the film, had performed the same task in the the real P.O.W. camp, where he had been assisted by the film's technical adviser Senior Commissioned Gunner (TAS) Lieut. J.W. Goble.
407 was found with image search and I know nothing other than what I read in IMDB, so I won't answer.
407 is a well known British film set in 1939 and part of the story played an significant role in history. The real life tragedy that I referred to was far more immediate in time.
I have a feeling that the film is well known in the British Empire, but obscure in the US. Kind of an American arrogance where if we weren't central players, it wasnt important. Interesting plot though.
The answer to 407 is The Battle Of The River Plate ( aka Pursuit Of the Graf Spee in the U.S.A. ) from 1956.
The film covers the first naval battle that took place during World War11. It occurred in the Atlantic Ocean off South America.. After being damaged in battle on December 13, 1939, Captain Ladsdorff, to save his crew of over 1000 men had on the 17th Of December his ship, a German cruiser admiral scuttled after having his crew safely landed in a port in Uruguay.
Three days after being transferred to a Naval Hotel in Buenos Aires Argentina he then committed suicide on the 20rh of December. He lay upon the Graf Spee's battle ensign, and then shot himself with his pistol. The suicide wasn't included or even mentioned in the film.
The real life Captain Hans Langsdorff, and Peter Finch who played him in the film.
410. I found a production still for The North Star (1943)
Correct of course and very well done Jay. This is the exact image that I had ediited and used.
Out of interest for anyone not aware of this, the film was severely re-edited re-titled1950's re-release under the title Armored Attack!. All references to the Russian nationality of the participants in the original story was either eliminated or obscured. The film's plot involves a Ukranian village in the German invasion of June 1941,
From being our allies during World War 11, soon after the Russian red scare regarding communism was the reason the heavy editing of the film took place.
