I think I get lost because the site seems so disorganized. Whatever was last updated is at the top of the Home page…. There aren’t categories…well there are, but…  never mind. I went to the Home page  scrolled down a bit and THERE YOU ARE!!! I’m gonna go take a peek! Cheers!

Hi there. Yes, I’m back again. Really, I was in a weird, crazed buying frenzy recently. I have enough posters for at least one and a half more posts… But I’ll try to pace myself and hold back a bit. These aren’t that exciting. Actually, neither is the next batch. The batch after that has one or two things I’m especially excited about, but we’ll have to see what trickles in to fill the rest of that post up.
But I’m getting ahead of myself. We are on this post. Let’s take a gander at it,  shall we? I hope it won’t be too disappointing. Perhaps there’ll be a poster on here or two that you haven’t seen before.

    THE QUIET EARTH:

While I think I’ve heard of this movie before, and I think I may have seen this poster before, I’m not quite sure. If I have seen this poster before, I don’t think I actually owned it. Like my last post, this has a few posters that were part of several lots. No, I am not posting all of the posters in the lots. Not all of them appealed to me. This one, though, I found the art quite fascinating. It’s both beautiful and bleak at the same time. I have no idea if the movies is any good though. Interesting…

    BLOOD SUCKERS and BLOOD THIRST:
It’s double feature time again. The main feature stars, Patrick MacNee and Peter Cushing. The code feature is a Filipino lens, black-and-white horror movie, that I believe, was imported by the people who released the BLOOD ISLAND series in the mid to late 60s. Although it was not released here until 1971 with this double feature, it was made in 1965 back in the Philippines. It’s not an original story, really. Think of a Filipino COUNTESS DRACULA,  where a woman who is several hundred years old relies on blood to stay eternally youthful. I already have a copy of this poster. I don’t know why I bought the second copy. Oh well

    MAGIC:
I remember when this movie came out. It had the creepiest commercial, with just Corky, the ventriloquist dummy, talking, and maybe a few scenes from the film cut in quickly here and there. It really made me want to see it. The advertising made the film, I believe, a big hit. But I was kind of disappointed with it. It wasn’t really a horror film as it was a psychological thriller. While Anthony Hopkins was good in it, I thought he was a bit miscast. It seemed odd to me that a British guy would try to lose himself in the American wilderness. Why wouldn’t he try to lose himself in the British wilderness? It seemed an awfully long way to go to lose oneself. I think I was hung up on that the whole time I was watching it. It was good, but it wasn’t great. But that TV ad…

    COUNTESS DRACULA:
I dug this movie as a kid. I haven’t seen it in years, but I saw it several times on a local channel’s Saturday afternoon horror movie show. As mentioned in the description for BLOOD THIRST above, the story is about Elizabeth Bathory who bathed in the blood of virgins to stay young. I may have already had this poster. I’m not sure.

    THE LAST STARFIGHTER:
I remember when this first came out. Heck, I saw it in the theater when it first came out. I remember back in the day when I was buying posters as a teen, that this one seemed to be very popular. I wasn’t a big fan of the film. It was OK, but I wasn’t a big science fiction person. I’m still not. But I saw this poster going fairly cheaply recently… Or maybe it was part of a lot? I already don’t remember. Anyway, I’m not sure if interest in the poster has dropped off or what but I picked this up. I’m sure it was fairly inexpensive… Especially if it was part of a lot And here it is in my collection. Whoopie… For me, the big claim to fame for this movie, is that star Lance Guest went on to star in JAWS: THE REVENGE. Ha!

    To be continued ...

    PART 2

HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER’S STONE (
    adv):
Just like I’m not a big science fiction fan, I’m not a big fantasy fan either. The HARRY POTTER movies didn’t excite me in the least. I did see the first one and maybe the second one, but not in the theater. I’m not even sure if HARRY POTTER is still a big draw, but I picked this up just in case. As the first film in the series, if it is still a big thing, the price will go up. If they remake it, the price will go up. I think I heard talk of a TV series? If that happens, the price may go up. Or maybe I just wasted some money? It is mind-boggling, looking at the poster, how young Daniel Radcliffe once was though.

    AVATAR:
I did see this movie at the theater when it came out. It didn’t do much for me. I skipped on the second movie. Was there a third movie already? I don’t know. I kind of remember that this poster was pricey back in the day. However, upon reflection, I think it may have been the lenticular version I’m thinking of. This particular poster went for far less than I was expecting it to. Again, I think I was thinking of the price of the lenticular poster and not the paper one sheet. Hence, my bid was NOT outbid, and it became mine. Oops.

    EARTHQUAKE:
I already have this poster, probably several copies. I just love me some 70s disaster movies. THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE is probably my favorite of the lot. But EARTHQUAKE, as bad as it is, comes in a close second. (AIRPORT 1975 would come in right after that, if you must know, followed by THE TOWERING INFERNO.) The poster has always intrigued me. I love how all of the art is built around the title. I suppose it could’ve been a more artistic rendering, but for whatever reason, I just love the way they did it with the name of the movie and the artwork built into the title. I am a bit disappointed that on none of the copies of the poster I have is the gimmick Sensurround ever mentioned. What’s up with that? That was the big draw to the theater and it won an Academy Award (although I’m not sure why…). Favorite moments from this movie include the cartoon blood splat when the elevator crashes, Ava Gardener, who is only seven years younger than Lorne Greene, calling him “daddy” over and over as she is playing his daughter, During the earthquake, there’s a lady who gets glass in her face. If you watch the sequence carefully, you can see that when she looks up, she already has the glass in her face. It’s just not as noticeable until she turns around. I also find the scene with the miniature of the cattle truck on the collapsing freeway hilarious as it’s clearly a miniature. But overall, the special effects are pretty good… Especially considering this was 1974 and they had to do everything on camera for the most part. True,  there are matte paintings and miniatures, but the actual special effects are done on stage with the actors present. That big block of cement crushing down on a car? That was real! I was actually thrilled to get to go to the reservoir that was used in the film, up in the Hollywood Hills, decades after seeing the movie. That’s how much I love this silly flick.

    THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE:
I already have a copy of this poster as well.  But it’s such a great poster. This might be an upgrade. I’m not sure. This is my favorite of the disaster movies of the 70s. And just look at that poster. What fantastic art… And of my favorite part of the movie as well. Just WOW!

    THE LOST WORLD:
THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE was made by Irwin, Allen. THE LOST WORLD was also an Irwin Allen production. I have been after one of these posters for years—for DECADES! I first saw this on TV as a kid on, I believe, CREATURE FEATURE out of Oakland (KTVN 2)  in the late 60s or early 70s. I was just a little kid, and this movie really blew me away. It was one of the first (THE first?) genre movies I ever remember seeing.  I remember the perilous path along the cliff with the hot lava below and the threat of dinosaurs everywhere. Wow wow wow!
Part of the reason it took me so long to get one of these posters is because I could never remember the name of the movie. For years, I thought it was THE LOST CONTINENT, which it is sooooo not. (Boring!) Once I finally had the title firmly implanted in my head, I was still having trouble finding a copy of this poster. There just aren’t any out there that seem to be available. The ones I did encounter were always snapped up for more money than I wanted to spend. I know this is from back in the day before wide releases, but seriously… Where are all the posters for this movie? They are few and far between. This poster is far from perfect. It’s not all that attractive. However, I finally, FINALLY have one.

So there you are… That is my 10 for this time. Nothing amazing. Nothing unusual. Pretty much things that you’ve seen before probably. I’m happy with them more or less, especially the final three. (I’m strangely drawn to that first one as well.)  Anyway, thank you for visiting the page once again. I’ll be back sooner rather than later. Take care, be well, and I’ll see you soon.
    Cheers!

Hello. Here we are again. There’s nothing new to see here. Every poster is either VHS-era garbage or something you’ve seen before. There is one outlier that doesn’t seem to belong, but it’s one that I’ve been looking for forever. Even though I wasn’t actively looking for it when I finally got it. Huh? Never mind. Let’s just take a look and see what we have today…

    CURSE III: BLOOD SACRIFICE (video):
I don’t know what I was thinking when I decided to track down the posters for THE CURSE series. For those who have never seen it or heard of it, THE CURSE series is a mostly direct-to-video series of horror flick that are NOT related to each other at all, except by title. I have the theatrical (I think) one sheet for the original movie. I’m not sure if I have a copy of the part two poster or not, and I may have copies of parts three and four already… Or not. I am not sure. But here is the poster for CURSE III: BLOOD SACRIFICE. Yes, as you can, guess, it was cheap. Did I see the movie? I don’t remember. I may have, but I’m really not sure. I know I did see the first one. which was kind of lame. I think I saw the second one? Beyond that, it’s a VHS era blur.

CURSE IV: THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE (video):
That brings us to CURSE IV: THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE. I have no idea what happens in this movie. It’s just good to know that the title makers have up their game from the previous installment. Instead of the subtitle THE SACRIFICE, it is now THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE. Oooooo… Look out! From what little research I did on this series, I know that this movie was actually made a couple of years before the previous installment. It had just never been released before. As they are all unrelated, anyway, except by title, it didn’t really matter. This movie hails from 1988, but didn’t make it video debut until 1993. There apparently is a fifth movie in the series, CURSE V: BOLLYWOOD BLOODBATH that was released in 2008. I know nothing about that one at all. I’m not even sure there was any poster art for it. Since video stores have kind of gone by the wayside, I kind of doubt there are posters for it. But you never know. At least this one has a creepy guy passed out girl and some skulls. Oh boy. (It was also cheap.)

STAR TREK V: THE FINAL FRONTIER (teaser):
I’m not sure how I got this poster. Was it part of a lot? Probably. I’m not in the habit of buying sequel, posters, especially for science fiction movies. I’m not a big sci-fi guy. However, with the two CURSE posters above, I broke my own rule. I usually only sequel posters for movie series that I really enjoy (i.e. James Bond, some of the larger horror franchises, or exploitation gems like the OLGA and ILSA series). I’m pretty sure I didn’t actively seek this STAR TREK V teaser. I will say that I remember seeing this in the theaters when they were displayed. What? They’re installing seatbelts? I had no idea. They were just saying that and not actually doing that. I was hoping for some sort of amazing gimmick like Sensurround or 3D. Alas, it was just a rouse to get you into the theater. There were no seatbelts. There was nothing special that happened in the actual auditorium. There was just a so-so movie they were trying to hype up. Oh well…

STAR TREK V: THE FINAL FRONTIER:
There is no mention of seatbelts in this final one sheet for the movie (see above). I should’ve known better…. It was just a movie that missed the mark — at warp speed. At least it was better than part six and, even though I’m not a big fan of science fiction, the artwork is okay on this one. (It’s better than a picture of a theater seat with a seatbelt on it.)

    STAR TREK: GENERATIONS:
I think I already have a copy of this poster. I also think that this must’ve been part of a lot. I don’t see myself buying another copy of this, especially since I’m not a big sci-fi fan. I did recently come across a promotional poster for some fast food place or product or something utilizing this movie. This was the last movie with Captain Kirk, right? I don’t think any of the original cast in any of the other movies, right? I think after this one, it switched to Next Generation cast. I don’t know that I’ve seen all of the movies. I did see this one though.

    THE STING:
This is not the kind of poster I would normally buy. I will never hang this on my wall. THE STING was only the second movie I ever saw that was rated PG. The first one was WESTWORLD at the drive in on a double feature with the G-rated GOLDEN VOYAGE OF SINBAD. I remember when we were going to go see SINBAD, I rebelled against sitting through a PG rated movie. In hindsight, that was stupid of me. However, something about the PG rating and being only about seven or so unnerved me. I didn’t want to ruin my innocence I suppose. Of course, later, I couldn’t wait to get into our R-rated movies…And eventually ended up, sneaking into several. Ha! THE STING wasn’t my kind of movie. It was good and all, but it wasn’t my kind of movie. Yet, when I was younger, I was trying to get ALL the posters for all the movies I had seen. I could never get a copy of this poster. Long after I lost interest in this movie and long after I should’ve stopped looking to get a copy of this, here I am landing the poster… How many years later? More than 50! Ha! (Damn I’m old…)

    END OF PART 1

    PART 2:

SILENT NIGHT DEADLY NIGHT 5: THE TOY MAKER (video):
Lille the CURSE movies above, I’m not sure why I decided to buy this poster. I’m not really a huge SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT fan. While I do have the poster for the first three films, I believe the fourth and fifth are completely unrelated to the first and second (and third?). I saw this one and thought, why not? The poster for the fourth direct-to-video movie is rather boring. I may have it already though. If I have the first three posters, why not get the last two? I’ll have to look back through my stuff, but I’m not gonna make that much of an effort probably.

    HELLBOUND: HELLRAISER II:
I’m not sure how I ended up with this poster. I already have a copy. Was it in a lot? Was it going for a low price? I don’t recall. While it is, in my opinion, the best film in the HELLRAISER series, the poster is kind of dull. It’s just Pinhead’s head. At least the first poster had him holding the puzzle box. Oh well.

    DEATH WISH:
I think I already have this, but I’m not sure. I didn’t see it until years and years after her to come out, but it’s reputation preceded the viewing.. I’d wanted to see it for years. When the sequels started coming out in the 80s, I rushed to see part two and part three. After that, I lost interest. When I finally saw the first one, it wasn’t all that fab either. I think I had built it up in my head to make it more than it really was.

    THE OMEN:
I already have a copy of this poster, but I love this movie. When I eventually reclaim my dining room from the boxes that now inhabit it from my move, I plan to cover the walls with posters. I so hope I leave space for this poster. It’s not the greatest in the world, but I just love this movie. For being one of the satanic panic flicks from the 70s, inspired by the success of things like ROSEMARY’S BABY and THE EXORCIST, I thought this movie did a remarkable job. Director Richard Donner squeezed every penny of his meager budget into this film. With locations in Rome and England, and the stellar cast led by Gregory Peck and Lee Remick, this movie was just awesome and inspired three sequels, a remake, and the TV series. Billie Whitelaw was especially memorable as the creepily curdled version a Mary Poppins-like nanny devoted to Satan’s spawn! I believe she received an Academy Award nomination for her performance. Jerry Goldsmith deserved his Oscar win for the score and especially his Ave Satani number. Just—WOW! Soooo diabolically well done.

And that is my 10 for this time. I was thinking THE STING was the odd poster out. But when I actually took a look at the post when I was done, I thought that the two STAR TREK and the DEATH WISH poster we’re also kind of not the usual choices for my posts… Maybe not. There’s still something genre-y about them, whereas with THE STING there isn’t. Maybe I’m just keeping you on your toes, throwing things at you that you wouldn’t expect. Whatever. We are done for now. I’ll see you next time. Thank you for visiting. Cheers!

Thanks Rick. I’m glad to know it’s a good movie. I had no idea it was from New Zealand. I’ll have to look it up. I do like the poster a lot as well. Good taste.😉 Cheers!

And welcome back… With this post, I am hopefully wrapping up all the posters I purchased in my recent mania. ( Actually, as I write this, there are still a few auctions out there. I have bids on that haven’t closed. While I doubt I’ll get anything, there’s always the worry that I will and that those purchases will spill over into another post. Eek!) As per my (sometimes) usual, I’ve got a lot of trash and a few treasures. I also have a very bad headache. So let’s get on with it already…

    VAN HELSING:

This must’ve been a lot purchase. Although it’s based on a character.DRACULA, I had absolutely zero interest in seeing this movie. Zero.

TOMB OF THE BLIND DEAD (French):
I have long been a fan of the BLIND DEAD films. To my knowledge, only three of the four were released in the US and have one sheets. The first one, TOMB OF THE BLIND DEAD, was released as just THE BLIND DEAD with a misleading poster image making it seem like a knockoff of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD.  RETURN OF THE BLIND DEAD, the second film, was released as HORROR OF THE ZOMBIES. NIGHT OF THE SEAGULLS, the 4th film, also has a one sheet, but I’ve never found one yet. This is not an attractive poster, I admit. It is actually something I bought to pad out postage. Ha!

    SLITHER:
I know I saw this…I just don’t recall it. (Although I can tell you the theater I saw it in.)  Should I give this another shot?

    BODY COUNT (video):
This was a snap purchase that…was a mistake. I’ve been looking for the poster for a movie BODY COUNT. It’s a foreign slasher that is designed to look like an American one, but isn’t. I’ve been looking for years. I don’t think there was ever an American theatrical release, and certainly know American one sheets for it.. Apparently it went straight to video here. I came across this one sheet today and thought this must be what I’m looking for finally. I bought it instantly thinking I’d never have another chance to get it. Only, when I stopped and looked at the poster and looked at the credits, did I realize I had purchased the wrong poster again. Dick Sergeant? He’s not in the movie. Where are David Hess, Charles Napier, Ivan Rassimov, and Mimsy Farmer? Directed by Paul Leder? That’s not right. It should be Ruggero Deodato! Ugh! I got the WRONG BODY COUNT poster… oh well. Damn!

    BECOMING BOND:
What is this? A movie on HULU about George Lazenby stepping into the role of James Bond for ON HER MAJESTY’S SECRET SERVICE? Zowie! I had never heard of it when I saw this TV “movie” poster. As it is Bond-related, I had to buy it. (It wasn’t that expensive anyway…) I do want to see this. Is is still running? I’ll have to track it down… George Lazenby is the ONLY actor to have played James Bond that I ever got to meet.

    FINAL DESTINATION: BLOODLINES:
Normally I don’t bother with sequel posters…unless they are for a series I really like (such as the James Bond flicks or several of the larger horror franchises like HALLOWEEN. FRIDAY THE 13TH, EXORCIST, etc.). This franchise is NOT one of those. I do like the series overall (and have the 3D lenticular for part I or V —THE FINAL DESTINATION) proudly on display in my living room. This one was…I thought rather lame. While it did try to broadly explain the entire series (sort of), it was mostly a tired retread. (I forgot Tony Todd was in it. That was a sad and solemn farewell to the actor…) Why buy the poster? Well, BEFORE going to the theater, I saw the image below. My stars! Was that the Space Needle blowing up??? Seattle is basically in my backyard (well, it’s 2 hours away, but…). That excited me to see this. (Unfortunately, the Sky View in the film was a low rent and tiny knockoff of the real Space Needle…) So, again, why buy the poster? If you really must know, it was to commemorate my FIRST trip back to the movies since my cancer surgery in January. Although there have been several films I wanted to see, I dared not go for fear of an emergency need to run to the bathroom! Good golly, you have no idea how devastating that would be for the entire theater. I have no stomach and only a partial esophagus. My body does not digest things fully. The outcome is most unpleasant… But I DARED to finally risk it and successfully got through the flick! Hooray!  (I just wish the movie had been better…)

    DR. HACKENSTEIN (video):
What the hell is this? Ha! I have no idea but it was cheap (direct to video?) and it made me smile.  (“His experiments will leave you in stitches.”) I’m sure it’s dumb. Featuring Anne Ramsey from THROW MAMA FROM THE TRAIN. It’s a slightly smaller poster size, but I don’t think it ever had any other paper —this was it!

    SINNERS:
I did not get to see this, although it did come to my town and I did want to see it. (It’s a vampire flick. Right?) Since my surgery, I’ve been kind of afraid to go anywhere for any length of time without worrying about going to the bathroom. I just missed seeing this movie because of that situation. (I even canceled my upcoming trip to LA. Waaagh!) Last night, for the first time since my surgery, I felt safe enough to try it, and I saw the new FINAL DESTINATION: BLOODLINES flick. It was lame… The only reason I mentioned the FINAL DESTINATION movie was because, after the movie, I went digging through their giveaway poster box and I found this poster. Yes it was free. Yahoo!

    THE PIT AND THE PENDULUM:
Finally!!!! This is the last of the AIP/Edgar Allan Poe titles I needed (I think) to complete my collection of them. Hoooray!!!!! I don’t know why this particular one has been so hard for me to track down. And it is in fantastic shape! Zowie!!

    INVISIBLE MAN RETURNS (re-release):
While this poster has some issues (which mercifully kept it more affordable, no doubt),  this is the INVISIBLE MAN image I’ve wanted most for so long! Yes, it IS a re-release poster for the second film.  It has some issues but I’m overall okay with it—and long for it to be on my walls. Whoo hoo!

And that is the 10 for today. However, I have several more posts ready to go-go. (Sigh…) I’ll get the next one posted in about a week. Thank you so much for visiting. I hope something caught your eye and it wasn’t too boring.

    Cheers!

The Invisible Man Returns poster has a great design for a re-release. Well done in acquiring it,
It is also neat that you got to meet George Lazenby.

I truly like the INVISIBLE MAN RETURNS poster. I already have it framed. I just need some wall space for it. Yes, Lazenby is the only Bond I’ve ever met. I was thrilled to meet him. I also got to meet  Bond girls Luciana Paluzzi, Tanya Robert’s and Caroline Munro…and interviewed Richard “Jaws” Kiel.
  • Curious to know in which capacity you got to meet the bond girls and to interview Richard Keil.

I remember seeing a creepy little Maury Dexter b grade 1963 film called House Of The Damned (1963), in which Richard Keil played The Giant. His limited scenes in the film remain in my memory to this day.

I got to meet the Bond girls at various convections. I used to be a writer for the Fresno Bee, a newspaper in the McClatchy chain. I did an article on Kiel (I went to his house for the interview) . He was a resident of Fresno in the final years of his life. The article is here:

And I'm back! While I still have a few outstanding bids as I write this (and I’ll probably be outbid on all of it), I believe my bidding/buying mania has subsided. Thank goodness. Barring wind on those few things still outstanding, this will hopefully be my LAST post (at least of new purchases. I’m working on one on going through my poster rolls, framing, etc.) for a long while. So, I hope you already grabbed your Goobers and Jujubes  because the show is starting now. Why wait??? The lights are dimming…

    BRING HER BACK:

I already got one of these, not too long back, but it got damaged in the mail. This one apparently has a slight damage to the upper side, but I risked it anyway. I haven’t seen the movie although I know it’s out now. It will probably never come to my town. But this poster kind of creeps me out. The movie is probably gonna suck, and I probably should’ve waited for words to get out whether it’s good or not, but I just couldn’t not get a copy of this poster while one was available and a decent price. It’s just too freaky.

This is another poster I already have. However, when my original showed up, it had been damaged. This is simply a replacement. I’ve never even seen this movie. Is it any good? The poster is kind of boring. Hmm. It also looks folded here. I believe the poster I ordered was rolled? Maybe the fold lines are made to look like the poster result and it’s not really folded? Sometimes I think I should wait to post pictures until after. I actually have the actual item.

I am sure I already have this poster, but it’s one of the more popular titles in the franchise and it was not that expensive, so why not? I don’t need it. Maybe the devil made me do it! Oh my!

I got this poster not that long ago… I would say, less than a year ago? The artwork, stolen from another one sheet from a few years earlier (I forget which one) is darn awesome. However, when the one I ordered before arrived, it was damaged. Hence this replacement. The movie, FRIGHTMARE, as I recall is awful.

Although I may have one already, OK… I picked up this copy BLUE MONKEY. I have no idea what this movie is other than what I read about it briefly and skimmingly on IMDB. For years, I wasn’t sure if it was a horror movie or a comedy or what it was. I’m still not sure, but IMDB listed it as a horror/sci-fi movie. Why would I think it was a comedy possibly? Well, John Vernon is best known for his role ANIMAL HOUSEJoe Flaherty is only (?) known for his work on SCTV. I’m pretty sure I might have a copy of this already and it’s not a great poster… Is the guy on it screaming or laughing or just saying hi? But it’s interesting enough and I do look at it every time I am perusing posters for sale. Why not? It was less than $10.

    STAR TREK (TV series video):
For years, I resisted buying video posters. That slowly gave away when I realized that many things were released straight to video and there would be no theatrical one sheet for them. While I’m the science fiction fan, I have seen all of the episodes of the STAR TREK. They were syndicated all my life long so how could I have not seen them growing up? But I’m really not a fan. I’ve only seen a handful of the NEXT GENERATION series and an episode here and there of some of the others. I couldn’t even name all the STAR TREK spinoffs and sequels. When I spotted this video poster for the original series, my  initial thought was to pass on it. And then I looked at it again. It’s 26 1/2 x 40 so it’s basically the same size as a regular poster these days. The Art on it is pretty good, with the likenesses of the crew being nicely rendered. Video poster or not, I thought this would be a wise investment for the future. How many video posters have survived do you think? Except for a few of the fathom events showings of some of the original STAR TREK episodes (of which I do have at least one of the one sheets), there really isn’t a “movie poster“, for the series. It’s such an iconic show and so popular, that I thought it would be a good investment. The fact that it says videocassette on it… Too funny and so space age! Ha! Wow, it’s amazing how far technology has come in just a short amount of time.

    HOWARD THE DUCK:

Oh my stars! I never saw this movie. I remember when it came out, it was a huge bomb. Flop-O-Rama!!! I believe Leah Thompson was fresh from BACK TO THE FUTURE?? Or perhaps this was just before? I don’t know. I remember that the HOWARD THE DUCK comic books ere kind of a big deal when I was a kid. I started buying them around issue nine or so, but I never read them. When the movie came out, I was just as freaked out as everyone else seemed to be by the main character. WTF!?! Back in the day, I believe these posters were pretty darn cheap. I saw one recently and picked it up to pad out shipping. It wasn’t five dollars cheap, but it wasn’t that expensive and it took me back to when I was younger, and the movie was coming out. I still can’t believe they made this movie. Is it even available anywhere? I don’t even know if I can bring myself to watch this. It looks like such a disaster. But then, bad movies are my middle name.

I have no idea what this is. The negative image on the poster intrigued me. I hope this turns out to be a good horror movie. It’s got a good director. But… Maybe this is already come and gone? I really don’t know anything about it.

This movie is probably going to be C-R-A-P, but as an EXORCIST-ripoff, I’m so gonna be there. The fact that they got Al Pacino to star is amazing. Of course Russell Crowe did two back to back EXORCIST rip offs, THE POPE’S EXORCIST and THE EXORCISM (which I still haven’t seen…). Since it is supposed to be inspired by the “true story”, let’s hope that they restrain themselves from too much CGI and keep it subtle. I think that would be best. When it gets too overblown, it loses all of it believability. If you can believe in this stuff anyway. But I am looking forward to it and I am very curious as to how Al Pacino will do in such a role in this kind of movie.

HOUSE OF DRACULA (60s military rerelease):

OK, so it’s a re-release, and it’s a military poster… Do you think I would ever be able to afford one of these now if it weren’t? I am more than happy to have this. As everybody knows, Universal horror paper is nearly impossible to get. While I do have a some various pieces from the various Universal series (NOTHING from THE MUMMY series though, as of yet), three of them have only been military posters. I am more than okay with that and have displayed them proudly. This is another I will be thrilled to have on my walls (eventually). Whoo hoo!

And that is my 10 for this time. I am writing this weeks in advance. I have three or four other posts ready to go ahead of this one. As I said at the top, I hope this is the last one for a long while. I can’t afford anything. However, I also said that I have a few outstanding bids that have yet to close. Well, I don’t wanna be back anytime soon, never say never.  Let’s just say I’ll see you when I see you. Thanks for visiting the page. Cheers!

I agree. (I usually put my favorite poster of the bunch at the end.) It may be a military rerelease…but I’m thrilled to have it!

Certainly a great poster for your collection.

I am thinking that this poster ties in with the 1950 Realart re-release. What are your thoughts?
  • Werewolf by night (if i remember correctly) are made to look old...been ages since I saw mine, so could be wrong.
I dont remember much about the actual show (on Disney+) but I do recall enjoying the lead actors performance.
Was done in black and white...very atmospheric.

Hi Hondo. I think you are right. I think it is using the Realart re-release art… but it was simply reused in the 60s military reissue. Nice to have no
matter the case (since an original or Realart re-release would be uber expensive.). Thanks for visiting.

Interesting… it was purposely made in black & white? I remember the Marvel comic book in the 70s, but I never read it. I guess they were going for the look/feel of the old Universal classics? Thanks for the info.

It has since been released on Disney+ in colour as well if you're interested, but I'd rather watch in B&W.

Thanks. I don’t know if I’ll ever see it in color or black and white as I don’t subscribe to any streaming services but it’s good to know that it’s out there in both versions. Cheers.

Welcome back. As I write this (weeks and weeks ago), the very tail end of my recent poster-buying mania is coming to a close. Well, I still have to worry about auctions on Thursday of this week, it looks like I only have to worry about one poster. Whether or not I get it remains to be seen. However, at the moment, there are two posters in this post. I have one from recent auctions. One of them, the one that I am most displeased with winning, is fairly obvious. The other one, not so much. The one I may or may not win on Thursday? I think that will be obvious as well by what I intend to write about it should I win it, but we shall see. Can you figure out which posters I want in these last auctions before coming to my senses? Of the 10 title shown here two (or three) of them are from those final crazed auctions.

    TEENAGE COWGIRLS:

What the hell was I thinking? On the tail end of my weird cancer buying spree (inspired by my seemingly surviving it—-although I’m not out of the woods yet—while two longtime friends succumbed to it within days of each other, with one of them having virtually the same cancer as me!), one of the final outstanding bids I had was…for this crap??? Again, all I can say is, what the hell was I thinking? Unlike star John Holmes, this will never be hung. Bad pun aside (And please, I had to say something to make this turd of a purchase somewhat worthwhile.), The really, really bad part is that at the peak of my mania, I was outbid on this thing. I don’t know what the hell I was thinking, but I bid again and I bid big. What the hell was I thinking? I bid on several things again as I was outbid before coming to my senses and yet, of course, this is the ONE thing that I didn’t need most of all that I ended up winning. Crap.

    JACOB’S LADDER (video):

I saw this movie back in the day in the theater and it didn’t do much for me. This poster, though, was an unexpected surprise from a dealer. I’d purchase from a little while back. The posters I bought from him are in an earlier post. What I didn’t anticipate was receiving bonus free posters from the dealer, one for every poster I bought. This is the first of the three. While the movie isn’t my favorite… By far… The image is interesting enough. And it was free! Hello!?!

    THE GATE II (video):
I saw the original THE GATE when it played in theaters. I liked it. I thought it was original and interesting. For the sequel, I was a bit disappointed that it went straight to video. However, upon viewing, straight to video was where it needed to go. Despite liking the first movie, this one was lacking something. I don’t think I ever managed to score one sheet for the first film. Although it’s interesting, I never considered buying a poster for the second film because, at the time, I was a theatrical release poster snob. Video posters were beneath me. I’ve since learned my lesson. Even though this wasn’t my favorite movie, the image is still kind of creepy cool. I was thrilled to receive this as a free poster. Wow.

    NAKED LUNCH (video):
i’ve only seen this film once and it was trippy. I’ve been trying to score the one sheet for years, but it’s always gone for more than I wanted to pay for it and I’ve let it go. This video poster is nothing like the original one sheet. However. In addition to showing the star of the film (Peter Weller), it also shows the main creature thing. It has a name, but I don’t remember what its name is. Bizarre, hallucinogenic lunacy from the minds of William S Burroughs and David Cronenberg. It’s truly an experience. And I’m thrilled to receive this free poster.

    GRAVEYARD SHIFT (video):
This was inexpensive. I saw this back in the VHS days and I know there was a sequel. It’s about a vampire cab driver, as I recall. I don’t remember if it was good or not…I do remember that it was an interesting concept. I don’t think it played here theatrically…but I may be wrong.  I don’t remember this being a great movie, but it sticks out in my mind for some reason. Perhaps it’s because it did have a sequel? I don’t recall…

REVOLT OF THE ZOMBIES (1947 rerelease):
I LOVE this cool old poster. Yes it is a rerelease…it’s also 78 years old. The sad thing about this poster is that this is the THIRD copy I’ve had to buy. The first one had this horrible offset printing error when it was being lithographed. I had it up on my wall and dealt with it begrudgingly… until I got a second copy. That gorgeous, printed correctly second copy got a bit smashed (EEK!) and had a corner torn off (ARGH!!!) somehow in my move. Good god… is this title cursed or will the third time be a charm? I’ll keep my fingers crossed until it actually arrives and I can get it safely in a frame.
I never saw this flick. It looks cute and I’m sure it’s good, but… nope—I know nothing about it. Why the poster? It was FREE… from my local theater. (I’ll take it. Thank you!)

A NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS (2007 lenticular rerelease):
I am overjoyed with this…or was. My mom actually bought this for me. What a wonderful surprise! I have the paper version…but really wanted the lenticular one. I have my lighted frames in my TV area and have four of my faves in them (including the original release A NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS lenticular). (I love that Sally has pulled off her arm to snag a piece of popcorn. Ha!) However, when this arrived and I put it in the light box, there was a nasty scratch down one side. Ugh!!! I complained and the seller, not wanting to pay return shipping, refunded my money and allowed me to keep it. That’s great except… I don’t want a scratched one. Waaaagh.

    CHRISTMAS BLOODY CHRISTMAS:

I had gotten one of these before, but it had problems when it arrived (crushed in the mail… ugh!) When I saw this one, I snagged it. It wasn’t very expensive…and I think this poster is on the rarer side even though it’s a newer poster. I don’t think it had a wide release theatrically. It’s not a great movie. It’s from a spec script that was originally written to be a remake of SILENT NIGHT DEADLY NIGHT…with a renegade robot Santa! Ha!

HENRY— PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER (banned version):

Wow! Wow! Wow! I paid too much for this (as I have for everything as of late), but wow! Wow! Wow!!! I am super pumped to have this rare original version of the HENRY one sheet that was later banned for being too extreme. Super creepy art for this disturbing (but amazingly gripping) movie—-so much better than the sequel, by the way... It has a few issues on the edges, but is super nice overall.

And that’s my 10 for this time. Thanks for visiting. I have one more (unexpected) batch ready to go. By and large though, I think my poster collecting days are done. I can’t live forever and I have all sorts of medical bills now… I’ll keep my eye out for a few special  pieces, But I think that’s basically it. We shall see… but, for sure I’ll be back with at least one more thing of new purchases. And I’m working on another post about my collection overall. So, I’ll see you next time… Cheers!

Weird it got released in colour.  I thought they were going for that Universal vibe as well!

Yes… my favorite is the last one again. REVOLT OF THE ZOMBIES is one of my faves…but it is further down the list because it is the third copy I’ve gotten…and its new-ness factor is not there. But I do have it framed already…hope to get it on the wall soon. Thanks for visiting.
