The Worlds Applause Paramount 1923 Swedish One Sheet 235 X 355 Eric Rohman Artwork
  • WöW.... (In Swedish) hehe
  • The Ghoul is a great movie too...but I might be a bit biased given the plot
  • She's back. No doubt Matias is following the live auction  =)
  • Of course I am. I love women. I'm in love. =)
  • Four eyes is now. Time for a break...
  • We all expected the Casa HS to go for a good price. But I was  surprised . Good lord
  • Yep, the price for that was insane...
  • Jaw dropping results.

I've bought the odd item from Dominique Besson over the years, if I had known I was feeding his poster habit I may not have spent so much =)  - a great collection of 1SHs hitting the block soon, seems like the man suffered OCD (too), a bit of a completist. Too many there to pick just one that I liked - should be interesting.  http://www.emovieposter.com/online/previews/2016dec/parti/
  • The preview should be called "Rosa's wantlist"

So true!  I went to Paris "just" to meet meet Besson  and see those fantastic posters.... :)

A good observation. It seems he had a obsession with Bogart. I cannot blame him for that.....sadly....i understand.
    ....oh dear.
  • One thing great about these for some collectors is that none are linenbacked, and the only "restoration" any have had is the odd piece of tape stuck on many years ago. Not everyone cares, but for those who do, this is a golden opportunity, because these days you almost never see a top poster that has NOT been backed and restored.

Agree. And most of these posters were in great condition. My congratulations to posterchild he won the Casablanca OS. Although that particular poster is not my favourite - I like the HS or the Italian better-  It is really a privilage to see it as it was meant to be seen, totally "untouched".  You & team must have seen it all, but for some of us it feels rather special being able to get that "close" to a film that it is so unique.

    Congratulations Bruce

  • Posterchild was very busy in bidding, including the orange Mad Max and several other top titles.

3h004 BALL OF FIRE English door panel '41 stone litho of Gary Cooper & Stanwyck, Howard Hawks

An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded English Door Panel Movie Poster (measures 19 1/2" x 60" [50 x 152 cm])

Film Description: Ball of Fire, the 1941 Howard Hawks romantic comedy (VERY loosely based on "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs"!; "I LOVE HIM because he don't know how to kiss .... THE JERK!"; "Hold on to your hat, Gary... A glamour dish is after your heart!"; "You'll laugh with your heart wide open at this whooping, yet warmly tender comedy-romance! It's Gary in top-form as a stiff-as-a-board professor who unbends with a bang... When a glamour-dish whose slang he's studying treats him to a lesson in curves!"; "Don't be a Drizzle-Puss... I'm just showing you... What 'YUM-YUM' means!") starring Gary CooperBarbara Stanwyck (in her nominated for Best Actress Academy Award role; as Sugarpuss O'Shea), Oscar Homolka, Henry TraversTully MarshallDana AndrewsDan Duryea, S.Z. Sakall, Tully MarshallLeonid KinskeyRichard HaydnAubrey Mather, and Allen Jenkins

Important Added Info: Note that this poster was printed on the back of part of another English poster (likely part of a six-sheet; see our images). There is an image on the back of most of the poster, but no writing. In England at that time, there was a huge paper shortage during World War II, and so they printed many of the movie posters at the time on the back of already printed posters (a practice also pretty common in Belgium and France during World War II, when there were also huge paper shortages). The poster offered here was printed on the back of another poster, and it shows through in various parts of the poster (mostly as a sort of light "ghosting" in the light colored areas). See our image to better see exactly what bleed-through there is.

Overall Condition: good to very good. The poster was printed on the back of another poster, and there is slight bleed-through in the light colored areas . There are also some unevenly spaced horizontal creases in the poster and some tiny creases, tears, and tiny paper loss down the edges of the poster. But it is likely that all examples of this poster were printed on the back of parts of other posters, so any other surviving examples would have this same condition issue, and the poster will display well as it is. Please look at our super-sized images to get a good sense of the exact condition of this item.
  • Given how little of the image shows, it seems it would have to be part of a three-sheet or six-sheet, and my money is on a six-sheet. But as you say, which one?

  • First step is to identify the actress.

I'd suggest that might be nigh on impossible

However, if you could find more of the Ball of Fire posters it might have been that the poster was printed 4 up and then cut to size, although this poster is 60" tall so that means the bottom/top section would not have been used anyway, so perhaps lost forever.
  • Oh pretty...and weird...my two favourite things :)
