Thanks for the invitation.Thank you Charlie. I collect Audrey Hepburn movie posters and other vintage movie posters of interest.Hope to meet more friends
After ghosting these forums for details and guides on restoration, I decided to reach out (thanks for the invite Charlie, your posts and threads and seeing your Obi Wan, aka Eisenhower, make so much progress has been inspiring).
I'm a Yank but have lived in Europe for the past decade. While in Prague I got the poster collecting bug (before Terry's Posters and the market blew up the prices for Czech and Polish sheets).
Now I live in Paris in a flat that has an extra room... I'm going to put it to good use via starting the journey in the ways of the Linen Back and Restoration, on this side of the pond.
Anyway, if anyone has questions on life in Europe / Paris / Prague / Budapest, don't be a stranger. I certainly won't be on this forums.
bonus blah blah: favorite poster I own, Polish version of 'To Live and Die in LA' by Jakub Errol (will post a pic when I'm back in Paris after the holidays, currently in Budapest).
Although I did about 9 to 12 months of reading and research before I began my restoration journey, Charlie certainly was the key difference in confirming, and correcting the process by which I today linenback posters.
We, I, certainly look forward to seeing your works, and progress in the learning backing arena. As for Budapest, that is where my heritage is from, as my Papa traveled there dozens of times.

Yes, ill bombard questions once I’m back in France and have everything ready mid to late Jan (getting some of the chemicals may be difficult and I’ll try to find a local place to pick up untreated linen at the right strength... in Montmartre they’re loads of fabric and tailor dealers + I’ve got a few Italian 2ps that should make good and frustrating practice).
And Budapest is great. Partner is from here so we come often.
My collection is pretty eclectic. I typically gravitate towards posters of my favorite movies or ones that really resonate with me on an artistic level. Just received a Struzan Squirm for Christmas.
I also love foreign posters. Two of the gems in my collection are my Polish Nashville poster and my Indian The Lady Vanishes 1960s re-release.
Hi everyone I see we should introduce ourselves. Well, I'm Mark and thanks for letting me join. This site seems to be pretty good so glad to be here. I've been collecting original posters and Lobby Cards for about two years now and my home is almost completely full. My favourite decade is the 1970s (my favourite film is Jaws) and most of my stuff is from that era. I do, however, have a couple items from 60s and 80s also. But nothing older or more modern than that. I particularly love Australian Daybills and UK Quads but also have one sheets here and there. I also collect other memorabilia on some of my favourite films i.e. models, books, brochures, action figures etc. Cheers
Welcome aboard Mark! What got you into collecting posters?
Thanks Matt. I've always loved movies but even when I was a kid I was always drawn to the advertising of films. Always loved film poster artwork. Was always looking at the cinema section of the daily paper and even if I wasn't old enough to see some movies I'd take the opportunity to go by the cinema they were showing at just to see what the posters looked like in the flesh and in colour lol. Stems from that I think. Just wasn't really able to collect and display until a couple of years ago.
Thanks so much, Matt, for letting me join the "club"! I've been a serious Elizabeth Taylor collector for, well, I won't say how long because it will BLOW my "39-and-holding" cover! LOL!! But, suffice it to say, I've collected for a L-O-N-G time! "Profiles In History" did a "special section" for my collection in their auction just last month. As far as posters go, the one that I regret including was a very rare French "8-panneux" for "The Taming of the Shrew" - as many of you already know, the "standard" size for a French poster is "47" x 63"; the "8-panneux" is 8 times that size, roughly 10' x 13'. It was (is) magnificent!! The other regret was a similar-sized, equally rare, equally magnificent, Italian poster for "Raintree County". These posters are pretty much the French and Italian equivalents of our "24-sheet" (billboard) posters. But, be all that as it may be, through my collecting such a vast quantity of posters from around the world, I became increasingly dazzled by the different approaches different countries did to advertise the films and by the various artwork used in those approaches. Many times the artwork is exceptionally better than what was used here in the U.S. Sometimes, the artwork is, shall we say, "grade school"...SO "grade school" it's baffling!!! I was going to post a photo for the group, but the only option I see is for a photo "URL". Is there a way to post using a "browse" my own files option? My best to all!
